I switched to Ally bank for my savings due to the interest rate, so all I have with them is an Online Savings account. So far, so good! I was able to move money from my previous account to Ally in about 3, 4 days. I've made transfers to and from it with no hassle.
However, I tried setting my girlfriend up with Ally's checking and savings. So far, not so good. We weren't able to send the signature card in right away, and now her account is locked. Called customer service twice and did the online chat once to no avail. She now has to call a specific person at Ally who "is handling her case", whatever that means.
Hopefully her situation gets figured out. I feel that once everything's in place, Ally will be great.
They really, really need to get mobile deposits, though. That's why I'm sticking with Charles Schwab for checking.

Also, after about four more phone calls to Ally customer service, my girlfriend finally has access to her money. Their customer service system seems a bit amateurish; I'm sort of dreading having to call them for any future issues.

So far my girlfriend's experience with Ally's debit card has been awful. Able to take out cash, great. Not able to buy anything online yet, not great. Tried buying something from Amazon, Straight Talk, and Walmart. All have been declined. Tried calling Ally, was put on hold for 20 minutes, then got disconnected. Not happy.

Last update hopefully. Girlfriend's checking account is mostly working, finally. Took way too long to get everything in order. Still having some quirks with EFT payments, so might be yet another phone call if we run into trouble again. Oof.
I tried opening a new account with Ally Bank and they refused to open the account because my wife of 46 years has no credit in her own name. This is the first and only bank in our 46 years of marriage that refused us.
I would not try to get an account with Ally.
Customer service is rude does not comprehend English and they do not understand how to do their jobs. They call 10 times a day even after you talk to them 3 times a day. If you decide to buy a car don't use Ally.
