I have had a credit card account with capital one for over 3 years now. First-off, they started my account with one-fifth (that's right, literally one-fifth) the credit limit that other reputable banks were offering. None the less, i thought it would be nice to try and support a lean e-commerce organization (i'm an it nerd and yes these things weigh in my decision-making) and that i could build my history with them and they would then be willing to provide me with a more normal credit line. Anyways, i literally curse the day i thought it would be a good idea to get a capital one card. Over the past 3 years i have faced the following issues -
1) they would not increase my credit limit despite repeated phone and online requests and despite holding my account in immaculate condition
2) my account gets hacked on a quarterly basis and i have to sit undoing the charges by filing disputes and doing the needful paperwork
here's the last straw that broke the camel's back - in jan 2012 my account again got hacked. I got tired of dealing with them and requested that my account be closed. I was assured by their dispute officer that not only has the dispute been settled but they will close my account completely. In the following month all my regular vendors were able to ding that very same credit card despite it being "closed". Since it was closed, i did not bother checking until i got a late payment email from capital one. After over 22 hours of phone follow-up trying to make them understand that i was not liable for making payments that occured wholly due to miscommunication on their part i finally had to anyways pay the entire amount. My lesson learnt - never again deal with a non brick & mortar company. I wanted to share this experience with everybody out there. Even if it deters one person from giving these scumbags business i will think i made a difference in making the world a better place..
I had an issue with a transaction after ordering an item online. Carissa was very helpful with solving my issue. She stayed on the line with me for over an hour and went above and beyond with a three-way call with the company I ordered an item from. She assisted me with a conflict I had while on the three-way call. Carissa was very polite and helpful. I cannot thank her enough for helping me.
I have two accounts at Capital One because of the ease of sending bank to bank transfers. They were years ahead of their competitors on this. However they now have fallen far behind in terms of online service. Today was only the last in a chain of events that will lead me to move my accounts. When i did not receive my 1099, i assumed i would be able to access one online. When i couldn't find it, i tried to use the chat function on customer service, but it was "not available.
I wrote an email, for which i received no response within 24 hours, not even an automated response that my email had been received. I then tried online again and after several minutes of q&a was told there was no way to receive my 1099 except via regular mail. (not online, fax or email) she then told me to go back and write another email requesting a replacement 1099. When i balked she said she could request it for me (not sure why she didn't do this initially).
After waiting five minutes, i asked her if she was still there. She then responded that i should receive my replacement 1099 in two weeks. Two weeks? This would be such an easy thing to put online. All the information is available there, just not the tax form. I use several banks and this is the only one that does not make these tax forms available online.
