MyBankTracker rated Citizens Bank based on the following criteria that includes real customer reviews and bank fees, among others. Our bank report card is a proprietary rating system that highlights the financial health and stability of the bank.
Most recent: i just discovered that when they send payments from my personal account, they print a check showing my business name, with old closed p. O. Box as address and wrong zip code, even though both my personal and business accounts (and all recent statements) from them clearly show (properly) my name, house address and correct zip code. Before that, i took their advice to refinance my house at fixed rate (previously variable) - which has turned out to be a few points higher than the variable rate would have been over past few years - so, they cost me money, and gave bad advice.
I am also angry that they took so many years improve their online banking system so that it shows pending transactions. Unfortunately, it still does not show up as 'pending' in the 'balance' column (as it would in your own checkbook, and is normally done in bookkeeping as a check it written). I previously had excellent service from 4 different credit unions over past 30 years. I am to the point of telling every one i meet just how much i can't stand this bank. Unfortunately, i have my mortgage with them, and my financial situation does not allow me to get a new mortgage and change banks at the moment. As soon as i sell my house, i will. The only reason i rate them higher than zero is the tellers are always polite, and seem proficient.
Terrible communication and never meets deadlines. Horrible experience of purchasing a house with them.

We recently got married and joined our bank accounts. I was able to close mine easily enough and thought we had closed my wife's as well. The bank teller said the account was closed when we asked directly. Nearly a month and a half later we get a notice from the bank (labeled as the second notice though we never got the first) saying the account was still open and we were being charged all the maintenance fees for having no transactions. On top of that we were charged overdraft fees because the maintenance fees took the account below zero. When we went to the branch to fix it, they were very unfriendly and unhelpful and told us to call the national branch. When we did so the representative we got essentially told us that it did not matter that the teller did their job incorrectly, offered circular arguments on how it was all our fault for not closing the account, and at the end of the conversation had my wife crying on the phone. Needless to say, they lost all of my business.
