Our account has been compromised. We have not receive help from this bank at all. After they cancelled our debit cards, more transactions were deducted. Enough is enough. I'm tired of being fed lies and crap to shut me up. The wellington, oh branch manager is new and has no clue what he is doing. This has been going on now for 2 weeks.
Although my husband and I have been with FirstMerit for about 14 years, I have been disappointed to see that they are now looking for every way possible to take advantage of their customers.
They charge overdraft fees on authorizations, even though the amount has not been actually captured by the merchant. They take charges from high to low, regardless of order, so if you are overdrawn by $20.00 with 3 transactions for $5 and one for $50, they will always take out the $50 first, leaving you a $26 fee for EACH of the other 3 charges.
Don't even think of trying to make a deposit on the same day to bring your balance up, because they hold all but $100 until the next business day. We found out the hard way when we made our FirstMerit Mortgage payment at the same time we deposited a check that would cover the payment. They had no problem cashing my check and posting it to my account the same day, but wouldn't give us the funds to cover it until the next day, leaving us with another...you guessed it...$26 overdraft charge.
Mind you, my husband and I aren't in the habit of overdrafting, but practices that stack the deck in favor of the bank are not conducive to a good business relationship.
I'm now eying other banks that care more about integrity than they do the money they can weasel out of their customers.
I opened my account at another bank branch and they were always very friendly and helpful but I moved so now I am real close to this branch. There is a teller who is very unfriendly she is not courteous or a person with good customer service at all. On my last visit prior to today I went to the drive thru as I thought it would be faster but after sending in my deposit slip and cash I waited for awhile three to four cars went and then when I finally received my receipt it had been ten minutes since it printed as I was in a hurry I was a bit upset this was about a week ago.
I went to the bank again today and I was the only one in line there was a customer finishing up with the only teller and they were talking obviously new each other when she walked away I started to go to the counter since I had been patiently waiting but the teller kept telling me to wait several times finally she called me tot he counter and then said I am sorry but did not sound a bit sorry and says we are off line and I am not able to help you but you can go to a store for cashback.
The stores close to this bank only allow twenty dollars and I was trying to make a deposit in my account. I did not have time to go to a store about five miles away and then come back to make a deposit when I am a bank customer for many years I should have been able to do a cash advance at my bank and make a deposit. I have another bank offering me a reward for my business why would I stay with this bank where they treat people so bad. Thank you for reading my rant! all true! :) Have a nice day!
