I have been a checking account holder at this bank for 15 years. I've consistently maintained a balance, but lately only used the account occasionally. In july 2012, i logged into my account, only to find that it was closed. Dormant account fees of $5 per month had been assessed to the point where the balance was totally consumed. The bank explained that after six months of no activity, the bank starts assessing its monthly dormant account fees. The problem is that i have definitely gone more than six months in the past without activity, so this must be a new rule -- perhaps one hidden in a new set of "terms and conditions" for the account? I don't know. Initially they offered to refund me a portion of the fees.
But then my account again was assessed dormant account fees that again brought the account to zero, only this time they started accruing after only 3 months of no activity. How could 3 months of no activity be grounds for labeling an account dormant? A phone call to the branch where i opened the account was unreturned. Customer service declined to offer me any fee refund. I was told "we appreciate your years of banking with us," and thus ended my 15 years of being a huntington account holder, after the bank garnished my entire account balance via successive (dubious in my view) fees.
I have been a customer of Huntington Bank since 1980, I also have worked for Huntington bank for 30 years and receive a pension from them. On March 22 2014, Saturday, I wrote a check to church knowing our direct deposit was going to be in Monday night to cover with 24 hour grace period check came in for payment same time as direct deposit they returned check to sender instead of 24 hour grace period! As a long standing customer of Huntington Bank they should of payed my check !! I am not a new customer 6 months or less this caused an embarasament to me and the church I wrote the check too! After all these years Huntington bank serves false advertisement for customers.
I would just like to say Huntington Bank is the best bank I have ever banked with. The 24 hour grace is amazing!! After all of the bad reviews I have seen, I have found out it lack of knowledge with people. Quit complaining about 24 hour grace if you dont know how to use it. They have a call center and banking offices to explain it to you. Also if you have online banking it clearly states you have to make a deposit to cover the negative balance and keep it positive to the following day. Its not rocket science to understand if your account is negative to make a deposit for what its over drawn plus all other items that havent posted.
Dont try and play the system and pretend you forgot about a check you clearly wrote and when it comes through you get charged fees. Obviously you dont keep a register and balance your books. That may mean you are not grown up enough to have a checking account or you are one of those people who try to play the system and when it back fires you call to complain about the mistake YOU made. Huntington is the only one who has 24 hour grace to make things right for your first overdraw. No other bank out there does this. Either stop over drawing your account or cover what you over draw and stop complaining. It gets old!
