I'm a college student and I don't have much money. If you already read the other reviews listen to them. I was using this bank when I was 18 and in college. I got paid at night time once and this payment came in late for some reason(new management did payroll late) anyways I purchased a textbook about 1 hour before my paycheck came because I assumed that payroll payed me. I also purchased lunch and a few other things that day. Anyways long story short instead of fining me 1 fee they fined me like multiple fees and I end up paying them $500. The worst 2 weeks of my life was due to TCF. I had no money and I pretty much starved and had to walk everywhere.
This is another good story about TCF. Well one day TCF decided to change their overdraft policy so instead of opting in yes protect me from overdraft fees they decided to split this into two sections. So one was yes, don't let me overdraft when I do ATM withdrawals and another which was automatically put to no don't protect me from overdraft when I use my debit card..I ended up being fined about $100 just because TCF bank.
Also when I called the banks head quarters to ask why I got so many fines this customer support guy decided to read every transaction from day one That I had the card.. I'm not exactly sure why he read all my transaction from day one but that didn't help..I ended up jousting hanging up.
Keep in mind this all occurred in 2013.. The year TCF was fined $10 mil for not filing a bank secrecy document.
I have had horrible service with TCF BANK. If you call the Duluth office in Minnesota they tell you that you must call the 800 number because the phone line (which is local) "isn't secure". That makes no sense.
Every time there's an error with their checking over draft fees (which it's $37 each time you make any errors or if they POST something after a deposit is made but screw around with the dates instead so you get over draft fees, which they do) - so enjoy paying $37 in nsf for any transaction, even if it's $1.10.
Also check out these fees they charge your checking account each month. You pay an ATM fee at any ATM that isn't TCF already, let's say $2.50 which says is charged to your account, well now you pay TCF each month too: Service Charge or Fee CHECK IMAGE FEE
$-1.95 Service Charge or Fee ATM FEE-PLUS SYSTEM
$-6.00 Service Charge or Fee
$-15.00 NON-ET NON-TCF ATM FEE
These are they fees charged to my account each and every month, so lovely.By the way they randomly charge the account, usually it's the LAST DAY OF THE BILLING MONTH, but if you happened to be "over drafted" and they charge these fees -- guess what? You get a NSF fee of $37 per charge!!
I think this place should be investigated for fraud.
