National City Bank gives a $150 gift card for opening a new checking account. 

TCF Bank gives you $50 free groceries (as a Meijer Gift Card) when you open a new TCF Totally Free Checking Account. 

Fifth Third Bank gives you free checking with no minimum balance and 2 free ATM withdrawals at other banks per month. Be sure to check out the fine print, Fifth Third will waive their $2 fee for using another bank’s ATM twice per month, but the other bank may still charge a fee.

Banks give rewards to get you to use a service, such as online bill payment or paperless statements. Here are some of the promotions that go beyond the reward for using their cards. 

Charter One’s GreenSense pays you 10 cents every time you pay without paper 

Chase runs TV ads saying they will call you when your account is low or someone is trying to use your account. 

Regions Bank gives you a mobile phone when you sign up to their bank by phone program. 

TCF Bank enters you onto a drawing for $1,000 each time you use your check card or a TCF check clears your account. 

Banks are also starting to list auto loans on their web sites along with mortgages.
