Headlines on the economy this week was a varied mix of slightly encouraging and somewhat disappointing news.

After the rates cuts that CDs had at the close of last week, it's refreshing to see current CD rate averages without any of the "red marks" that were present in the previous week's comparison table.

With CD rates falling to an all-time low last week, we thought nothing could possibly get worse. But it turns out there was more to come.

It was a relatively quiet week for CDs and this is reflected in how CD rate averages ended up. Granted, there are a few ticks either going up or down but on the whole, CDs remained at their low levels.

CD rates in general, may be at their lowest levels right now but if you make the effort, you can always find some pretty decent rates that are way above the national average and better than what your bank is currently offering.
