Best CD Rates For The Week Starting September 14th, 2009
While CD rates in general made modest gains over the past week, these gains did not quite reflect on the highest CD rates to open this week. Top CD yields and the banks offering them remain the same for the most part, with a few changes here and there.
Positive Changes in CD Rates This Week
After the rates cuts that CDs had at the close of last week, it's refreshing to see current CD rate averages without any of the "red marks" that were present in the previous week's comparison table.
CD Rates Drop an All-Time Low
CD rates took quite a beating this week as averages for 6-month and 12-month CDs plunged to lower depths, from 1.14% to 1.10% APY and 1.41% to 1.38% APY respectively. Rate averages for long term CDs also fell, albeit only by a modest 0.01%.
Economy Ripe For Some Changes But CD Rates Not Budging
It was a relatively quiet week for CDs and this is reflected in how CD rate averages ended up. Granted, there are a few ticks either going up or down but on the whole, CDs remained at their low levels.
Top CD Rates Remain Relatively Unchanged
More banks dropped their CD rates in the last few days, causing major plunges on the national CD average rates as monitored by My Bank Tracker.
