“Worst Bank I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. They are horrible. Stay away!”
I had an auto loan through BMO when I bought my new car from the dealarship. The frist month I wanted to pay extra on the principal so I paid $100 more than the payment. When I looked later they didn't apply the extra to the principal but to the next payment (so they get more interest). I called and complained and they fixed it and said I would have to send in 2 checks, 1 for the regular payment and another for the extra with a letter asking for the additional to be applied directly to the principal. I did this and sure enough, they applied it to the next payment again. This went on for 4 months before I said enough is enough and refinanced through my local bank. Now BMO wont send my local bank the letter of termination for the loan I had through them and it has been almost 2 months. We are still waiting for the letter so I can get a refund on the GAP insurance I bought through the dealarship and so my local bank can finish paperwork and send the title to the Secratary of State Office.
Long story Short: This bank is absolutely horrible at doing the basic requirements and fulfilling their obligations. I would not go through this bank unless you have no other options.

“Fraud & Conspiracy”
In June 2005 we used our life saving and bought a business in Phoenix Arizona. Business was doing well until we were approached my a banker from M & I Bank who convinced us to sign up with a new loan program they called the "Swap Loan". We trusted this banker Mr. David Ridgeway and signed up for this loan which was supposed to save money.
Soon we found out that the loan I signed did not work the way it was supposed to work. M & I Bank withdrew thousands of dollars more then our loan payments.
When we confronted M & I Bank with the help of an attorney, M & I Bank admitted that their loan department had made an error.
Instead of refunding all the excess funds taken out of our account, they conspired with a real estate developer and sold our loan at deep discount to this real estate developer.
This developer (Tradecor Desert Sky II, out of Phoenix AZ) was successful in foreclosing on our property.
We lost our livelihood and our life savings.
I have tried to contact all the Federal and State agencies for help but was unsuccessful to get their attention. They have been passing my complain from one department to another.
In the mean time M & I Bank was bought over by a larger bank BMO Harris Bank out of Canada.
I have all the documents and proofs of conspiracy, fraud and perjury committed by BMO and Tradecor.
I was threatened and assaulted at my business shortly after our note was sold to Tradecor.
This is a long story but I have kept it short to try not to take up too much of your time.
Please do not hesitate to contact me should you decide to help me. Being a senior citizen, We had to move to San Diego with our children (penniless). I am now fighting my own battle in Arizona Appeals Court against two large corporations as I have no money to hire an attorney. ( CASE NO. CA-CV-12-0675).

“Horrible”
I have closed on 6 houses in my history and never have had such an awful, drawn out experience as I have just trying to refinance with a bank--and BMO even had my original loan! I understand that mortgage (and I am sure refinance) rules have changed and tightened up since the "bank scandal." However, my banker wanted only to close the deal, gave me all kinds of erroneous information (copies of W-2 okay vs. real ones, don't need tax form, then that they need 2011 FOR SURE when they needed 2012....etc. etc. ) But I was told none of this until AFTER the appraisal was paid. (It was so bad, I have excellent 800+ credit and was going to switch banks except the appraiser was not on its list so I would have had to pay the $500 twice--otherwise I would have!)
Re: questions not able to be answered--for example: My husband is not on the loan yet they insisted he had to sign papers but could not tell me what the papers were let alone what they meant I had to contact the title company directly to find out! And then, the closing, after my arranging it at his convenience at his main office and morning as requested, he wrote to tell me he would not be there despite setting the date two weeks in advance that he would "be downtown most of the day."
It was so awful thatâ??as frugal as I amâ?? I did not save $200 to have a direct mortgage with drawl from the bank because I would NEVER switch my regular banking to this establishment. Sad as it could have just been my bank assistant but I am not willing to take a chance to find out (and what bank for working people closes most branches--if not all? 5?)
In fairness, I ask a lot of questions as want to know (via email so I have the answers in writing) but another bank sent me a simple one page list of what was needed, I had two exchanges and all was clear to me. If only I had not paid for that appraisal!

“They made it as difficult as possible to pay my car loan”
BMO Harris Bank merged with my previous bank, M&I Bank. They stopped accepting my payments to the previous address after several months. Now, they don't have a way for me to pay my loan online which M&I bank was able to do.

“Horrible Construction Loan Experience”
BMO Harris lowered my credit rating over 150 points, and cost me thousands of dollars in refinancing.
From May 2012 to December 2012 we had a construction mortgage with BMO Harris bank. During the construction period we paid only on the current month interest. This was paid via paper check and US post (there were no electronic payment options at the time). Payment notices were sent in the middle of the month, but were dated the first of the month. We could not prepay the payment, as the interest amount fluctuated each month.
In two consecutive months, we received the bill, paid it within the week via check and US post. However, both of these payments were never processed. We never received notification that these payments were missing. The only way we determined the payments were missing is when the contractor submitted a draw, but funds could not be paid due to missing payments. In both instances, we went immediately to the bank and paid via the bank teller located at the local branch in Niles, Illinois.
The original checks were never cashed but our bank registrar shows when the previous and subsequent checks were cashed by other businesses and coordinates with the original due dates.
We have been working with BMO Harris for the last five weeks, but we can't even get the paperwork mailed to us to begin the correction process.
It will cost us $1300-$4000 to refinance due to our lower credit rating based on the fact that BMO Harris reported these two payments late.

“Not happy with this bank”
This is our second problem with BMO and it is just too frustrating to explain. BMO just has a "special" way of doing business.

“Awful.... an absolute JOKE of a bank!”
I was told the quickest way to pay off car loan (with an additional fee) and receive lien release so we could sell the vehicle, was to pay off loan online and fax Letter of Direction to them, I should get release in 2-3 days. Did that. 5 days later was told it was sent to wrong address... In a different state!!! Then was told by another person my "paper check" needed 10 days to clear! I paid off loan online through THEIR website (additional cost) NOT by paper check!! Now I'm told if I fax a letter from my bank saying I won't stop payment on my " online payment a.k.a. ....paper check" they will fax the release in 10 days to my place of employment....THE BANK THE PAYOFF CAME FROM is where I work!! No one seems to know anything about proper procedures within their own company. I will NEVER EVER deal with this place again!! This place is an absolute joke.

“Fraudulent purchase on my debit card”
I discovered my checking account balance was a negative amount when I tried to take money from the ATM -- this was quite a shock since I always have money to cover withdrawals. I found out my card # had been stolen and used in Miami, Fl. the prior day; they tried to use it twice but were denied due to insufficient funds. I was very distraught and Angela Fisher/Fischler (?) was so reassuring and helped me through the process to report the issue and complete the paperwork. My bad experience with the stolen funds was offset by the great customer service Angela provided -- her reassurance and confident steps to resolve my issue was very appreciated. Thank you Angela for helping me out!
