Started ok, now: Horrible

5/3 was my second-ever bank account, opened at age 18. Added one of their credit cards about 5 years ago. A few months ago, they detected some fraudulent activity on that card, which was great, or so I thought. It became a major, and ongoing problem, because that new card does not show up on my online portal, and they have never sent me a statement or bill for it, so the only way I can pay it is late after receiving a call from collection. You'd think that if they can define fraudulent activity, they could notice "hey, he's never had a late payment until we issued this new card, and oh, maybe we could send him a bill for this new card."

On a completely different note from the above clusterfuck, I personally find it annoying as all hell when you go in and they try to sell you 6 times over on shit you don't want or need. That is fucking annoying. Just let me bank. Yeah, 5/3 you lost my deposit accounts because your online portal sucked compared to the competitors, and still does. You'll lose my credit account as soon as it's paid off...if I can ever find out what that is!

Customers are not a priority

We refinanced our home in 2012 with Fifth Third. They lost many of our documents and delaying the closing over and over until we could no longer get the rate we wanted. We decided to refinance with someone else a year later and getting the appropriate paperwork from the bank to give to the financing company has been a nightmare!!! I suspect they are trying to delay me moving my loan or they are just plain stupid. I requested documents that mysteriously took 5 days to be emailed to me. When they arrived, lo and behold only one document out of 50 was sent. I attempted to call back and request again, but this time, the rep Christopher, said he did not believe I was who I said I was and therefore there was a security breach and i would have to visit a branch. I asked to speak to a supervisor and he REFUSED my request. In all, if you want any sort of customer service or any documentation or any information about your account, DO NOT BANK HERE!

Very Disappointing

In 2010, when we were planning to purchase our home, we were given a strong recommendation for 5/3. Thus, we went forth. The mortgage application process was horrific - many lost documents, late financials made us miss closing, etc., etc. Our retail experience with 5/3 was even worse. I just completed a letter addressed to Fifth Third executives literally pleading for their help. We have been stomped and stomped upon...can't take it any longer. I can only hope that through personal contact, our experience can be turned around. Fortunately, my two year long hatred for 5/3 has lessened into severe disappointment and disbelief. Only 5/3 has the power to turn this situation around. I hope that they take the opportunity.

Awful.

First of all- I decided I wanted to quit Fifth Third based on the new fees for checking accounts with minimum balances. There are many banks in town that service free checking accounts with no minimums (actually all of them BUT fifth third I believe). My husband & I moved our mortgage to another bank because the rates were at least 1.5% lower at others, and Fifth Third would not even come close to their lower closing costs in addition to the great rates offered. When I went to close my accounts today, the only person who could close the account apparently... decided she was going to go to lunch when I arrived and she just didn't have time to close the accounts. She asked me to come back in an hour (which I refused because I myself was on a lunch break) or make an appointment to close the following day. I said I absolutely could not. She sighed a few times and went back and forth and finally left it as that she just didn't have time right now. One of the tellers finally told me she could close the account, but she wasn't supposed to be doing it. The whole process took about 2 minutes total- which "Shannon" could have done quickly before she had to leave if she just would have gotten to it right away instead of trying to get me to come back. The teller was very friendly & did a fine job-- but in my opinion-- all who work at a front counter should be able (& allowed) to service anything to do with checking/savings accounts including opening & closing accounts. It surprises me that out of the 6 employees I saw working at the bank while I was there- only one of them was "allowed" to close an account. Customer service just isn't a priority for Fifth Third apparently.

God Awful

I have been with 5/3 for 13 years. You would think they know who I am. I have been employed by the same employer for 16 years. I deposited my paycheck into an ATM and it got rejected. They have not mailed me my pay check to 're-deposit' in their words, nor will they re-enter the check into the system. Since somehow the email alerts were turned off, my account has had $373 in charges incurred because with their 'new checking account' I had to switch to, they never linked my savings to the checking for overdraft. 2 weeks later, no paycheck, no debited charges. I am currently seeking a new bank after several years of piss poor customer service.

WORST WORST BANK EVER

I HAVE AN AUTO LOAN FROM DEALERSHIP AND THEY ARE RIPPING MY PANTS OFF. NEVER EVER COME ACROSS THIS BANK. I waste my time talking to them over the phone for so many problems with the auto loan payment. I may have to find a lawyer to sue them. Its just that I don't have time for that....so i'm reviewing them to warn people say away from these suckers

AWFUL

I scheduled a bill payment to be paid on May 6th. The money was transferred three days earlier than that on 3rd. Since I obviously wanted the money transferred on the 6th, I requested a stop payment. The stop payment was 'not guaranteed' to work, and it didn't, and I was charged with a $33 NONREFUNDABLE fee for the stop payment request. They assured me there was nothing they could do to refund my money even after the stop payment that I requested three days before the bill was scheduled to be payed did not work. This is not the first time I have been charged with a ridiculous nonrefundable fee and I have had it with this bank.

Horrible!!!!

I was advised by my realtor to apply for a pre-qualification for a mortgage at Fifth Third Bank in Florida.. I spoke with the Loan Officer she was polite and competent, she advised me of what documents were necessary to apply for a mortgage loan. I personally hand delivered the documents to their branch in Plantation, Florida, the documents were copied and originals were returned to me. I waited a week and kept checking on the progress and then they claimed I had not submitted my tax returns for the last two years as requested, I reminded the Loan Officer that we reviewed the documents together and she even remarked that I had not yet signed my 2012 return. I made it clear, I was very upset that documents containing very personal and financial information could not be located. After a long delay, they finally acknowledged that they did indeed have the documents. I am currently unemployed but have a large amount of liquid cash and a rather large investment account, my credit score is excellant, my debit ratio is very low and my current property is owned outright . They came back and offered a mortgage amount that would qualify me for a studio appartment in a Section 8 district. I heard from the Loan Officer today that they again reviewed my application and they have decided to reduce their mortgage offer, I could not qualify for the property I currently own outright. I strongly suggest that they consider a name change to Fifth Third Bank of Clowns!!! Stay Away from this ship of fools

Horrible customer service!!! Hard to get a agent to talk to!! So far every payment I have sent in seems to take 3 weeks to process, unless I physically call in a payment and charged an arm and leg for doing so. If I mail the payment, it seems to magically be "delayed" every time and I am whacked a late fee instead!! I've never had this issue with any other bank!! I normally mail in more than the amount due, but if they're going to keep taking that money as a "late" fee instead of adding it to the principle, then I will take my banking elsewhere!! (Too Bad There Isn't A Zero For Rating)

Cold, uncaring customer service. No empathy or concern, just the money please!

My wife died recently and I called to let them know. They said I should change the title and referred me to their outsourced title, release of lien company, mytitlesupport.com. I called them and they charged me $43 up front to submit a permission letter to the DMV to drop her name on the title. Then they told me I had 10 business days to submit the death certificate or I would have to resubmit and pay again. The state did not send the death certificate in time, and the title company would not refund my money. I called the bank and asked if they would take a total payoff minus the $43, and they said no, I had to pay in full. I will never finance with them again, nor recommend them to anyone else. I have always paid on time and was even a few months ahead, that is what being a conscientious customer will get you.

This Bank is a Failure in SO Many Aspects

On a personal level, with a personal checking account, I have had more issues with rude tellers, excuses for incompetence, and making me, the customer, feel at fault or belittled. A fraud alert is out in the open that $29.95 is being fraudulently removed from customer's accounts at US Banks. I am one of those victims. I had to complete a fraud packet, close my old account of 16 yrs, open a new one, and was assured the money would be credited back. What they neglected to tell me was that it would be credited back 7-10 BUSINESS days. It took one day for a fraudulent transaction to hit my account, but it will take them over 2 weeks to return the funds. How secure does that make me feel? Not! Our automatic deposit went awry at work, and I had to deposit a paycheck - from a job I've been at over 16 yrs., longer than I've had the 16 yr account, and a HOLD was put on it by 5/3 Bank. BUT, no hold was put on the fraudulent transaction to remove my funds. Basically, they gave me excuses about how none of this was their fault, and basically unless the $29.95 was causing me a hardship, they could not do anything to help me, I'd have to wait the 2 weeks. Thanks 5/3.... dealing with them on a professional level when I do real estate transactions, and they are the lender - they are the WORST! Their mortgage department/underwriters/processors are ignorant and rude. I have not once been told "I love 5/3 Bank"... have you heard that? According to 5/3 Bank, I'm the only disgruntled customer they've ever had....
