Great Service Representatives, Poor Business Decisions

I used to have First Commonwealth as a bank before I moved, and kept the account active to use Paypal. I always used credit, but one day the system for some reason withdrew the money from the account instead of going with credit. I called First Commonwealth immediately to let them know the situation (my account, as I well knew, had less than $3 in it). Outside of not being able to cancel the payment, which was outside of their control, they absolutely refused to remove the overdraft fee. Other banks, such as Wells Fargo, do everything they can to work with the customer, especially when an error occurs that was outside of their control. First Commonwealth needs to seriously consider this, and a few other technicalities (such as their horrible online system and still lacking email statements at the time of this writing), carefully if they wan to be a successful bank. It is, after all, OUR money that keeps them running.

1- Never respected their words.

2- They take you into tight corners and you feel threatened.

3-You cannot complain as they turn against any complaint.

4-I wasted 4 months with some psychopath and my good luck put me to FIRST BANK OF NIAGARA where they give me 1% less interest rate and they concluded in 3 weeks!!!

Horrible!!

I first opened my bank account with First Commonwealth in June of 2010 to get a car loan!! In July of 2010 i deposited my paycheck and they said it was in and so did the ATM so i used the MY money that supposedly was deposited!! Next thing i know is after getting my hair dyed and a new cell phone, i went to check my balance still had money in there!! Go back later that day and there was a negative balance!! So i talk to the bank headquarters and they said that they never got my deposit!! I'm like WTF I felt bad cause i was extremely rude to the customer service agent, but i was extremely angry!! So they stuck me with $1000.00 overdraft fees!! They keep hassling me wanting there money!! Guess what they arent getting it!! Idc if they put it on my credit i cant afford to pay back this very wrong overdraft fee!! Trust me I'm going to fight this bank tooth and nail!! I've talked to SO many people who this bank has done the same thing to!! Honestly after this HELL... idk if i can trust another bank!! I think i might just stick to a prepaid Visa or Mastercard!! Nobody use this SCAM of a bank!!

A pain, to say the least...

My account was overdrawn by only $3.41. This happened because Duquesne Light's website didn't register that I had changed the account from which my electric bill was automatically deducted, and they kept taking out of the First Commonwealth account that I no longer direct deposited my paycheck. I had to find this out for myself because no one at the bank notified me that the account was overdrawn until I got a letter two weeks later, saying that I had been charged $33 for the initial overdraft, and $5 a day for every day it remained overdrawn. This then equaled around $55. I went to the bank and told them what happened and that I wasn't going to pay for something that wasn't my fault, especially such an exorbitant amount. They told me they would file a dispute and I would get my money back, including the overdraft charge, and I would receive a letter confirming that within the week. Needless to say, I never received that letter, but I did receive two more overdraft notices, and one saying that it was going on my credit report if I didn't deposit money to cover the charges. I was already going to close my account, but now I know I will never do business with First Commonwealth again.

I've had issues

When I overdrew my account by $7 I was charged $99 in overdraft fees because they decided to charge the largest amount first which was only $8 and then the other two amounts which amounted to less than $7. I would think the fair way to do this would be to pay the lower amounts and only charge one overdraft fee for the $8. This is obviously a ploy to collect more money from there customers.

Does not work well with Others

I had a car loan with First Commonwealth and as soon as I had an issue, they repo'd the vehicle, and refused to work with me. They also tried to charge additional fees for storage, which did not not match the invoice from the storage facility. What a nightmare!

I've closed my checking account with First Commonwealth

I had a checking account at First Commonwealth Bank (FCB) at it's downtown Pittsburgh office, which I opened in early 2005 before it became so financially troubled. Everything went fine until fall of 2009 when, through my own fault, I bounced my first check with FCB. Because of the one check, I was also charged for five other pending transactions, none of which were over $6 (e.g., Subway for $5.35; $4.06 at Au Bon Pain.) I called the bank manager, assuming he'd waive the $198 in overdraft fees. Instead, he agreed to "splitting" that amount. I agree to being punished for the one check, but the rest is just greediness on the bank's part. What caused me to close the account, though, was the fact that the manager felt called upon to raise his voice when discussing this with me on the phone -- never a sign of professionalism.

Now I see the bank is being sued for, inter alia, fraud, in Allegheny County Common Pleas court. I'm glad I got out when I did.
