“Awful”
I needed a Money Order/Cashiers Check. I called the bank this morning to see if this location offered this service. I was asked if I was a customer and I said "No". The person told me that it was not a problem that I was not a customer, and that the fee would be $3.00.
At lunchtime today I walked to the bank. I told the lady at the window I needed a Cashiers check. She told me they only had money orders. I said that was fine and handed her $320 in United States CASH. She asked for my account number. I told her I did not have one, but I had called earlier and was told I could still purchase a cashiers check. She told me "NO -- we only provide services for people with accounts at the bank".
Although I was standing there with cash in hand she refused to sell me a money order or cashiers check, because I was not a customer. I was able to walk down the street to the currancy exchange and they were happy to take my money and sell me a money order for a total fee of $1.00 -- $2.00 less than First Midwest Bank told me they would do.
Guess I won't ever be able to get a money order or cashiers check at First Midwest Bank -- after the poor service I received I would never want to do business with them.

“The worst bank I've ever used.”
If I could award less than zero stars in all catagories, they would almost receive as bad of a review as they deserve. You cannot compare them to another bank, because there is no bank near as bad to compare them to.

“Absolutely ridiculous, a perfect example of how not to run a business.”
First Midwest is the worst excuse for a financial institution, that I have ever had the extreme misfortune to experience.
I have had bad experiences with them in the past, but let them slide, making the mistake that they were simple anomalies.
Their CEO must have a large pole .... and certainly does not have a brain, judging by policies and practice.
Closing my account.

“Horrible”
First, I let my credit card expire because I never wanted to go back, but apparently they sent me a new credit card that I never got. Then I saw a bill for $82 because apparently they have some insurance on my credit card that kept it open. They are literally the worst bank out there and I am so glad that I canceled.

“Terrible!”
These people are dumb as posts! They screwed up my checking account since Day 1. They were quick to play the blame game, yet nobody wanted to own their mistake. I wanted to close the account after having it less than a week but then they threatened to charge me. A year later and I want to close the account but still am unable to because these crooks will charge me a fee to close my account. Do not bank with these clowns! They are horrible! They are slow to deposit but quick to charge fees, etc. NIGHTMARE!!!

“Lack of Customer Service from Trust Team”
We are removing all of our money from this bank due to our frustration with the customer service with the trust division.
Our family has maintained a trust account with this bank since the mid 80's. The entire reason for setting up the trust was to bypass probate and ensure a timely distribution of the funds. Upon the passing of a relative, our trust representative failed to communicate documentation needs and the timing of events to the beneficiaries, which specifically delayed the distribution of funds by over 8 weeks. Our family members had to make several trips to the bank complete paperwork that should have been available day 1, which is difficult and unnecessary for aging family members. Finally, they verbally misrepresented fees allocated to our accounts.
Had clearer communication and better organization taken place, the fund would have distributed quickly and we would have left our money in this bank. We are absolutely shocked at the lack of good process and communication.
We're now consolidating all of our money into Fidelity. By the way - our experience thus far has been outstanding with Fidelity, including timely communication, guidance and a responsive representative.

“Tried to cash a check written on one of their customer's accounts”
Went to the drive up in Crystal Lake to cash a check for services rendered before I deliver the goods. The place was empty, no cars, nobody at the drive up window although their hours indicated open. I endorsed the check and sent it along with my photo ID in the tube and the teller appeared. She asked if I had an account with them and I replied that I did not. She then said that I would need to come into the lobby and pay a $7.50 fee to cash the check on an account in their bank. I told her to return the check to me and that I would have to demand cash from my customer or delay the delivery of his goods for the 5-7 days it takes to insure that a check won't bounce or stop payment. So, bottom line, if you are a customer of this bank and expect that your remittees can get ready access on drafts that you draw...guess again. If time are so tough for these people, they ought to stand out on the street corners with cardboard signs begging for donations.

“Sub-Par Bank at best”
Doesn't have many ATMs or online banking features. They really screwed me with the overdrafts. I had opted out of the overdraft protection so any purchases that would overdraw me would be declined. I got charged $175 in overdraft fees and they claim I went into the branch to opt back into the overdraft protection. Never happened! Switching to a new bank this week. Very untrustworthy

“Tired, lacks technological expertise and innovation”
I've bee with First Midwest for over 20 years and unfortunately the bank lacks innovation, vision and talent when it comes to technology. The bank's new website is painful to navigate and seems like it was designed by someone with no web experience. The bank JUST launched e-statements and still doesn't have mobile banking. Worse still, the account options seem like they're from 1986, with no rewards choices. Recent statement inserts included pie charts! PIE CHARTS! Clearly communications and innovation doesn't exist here.
This isn't my father's bank. It's my great grandfathers bank. I need to move on and they do too.

“They are the WORST BANK EVER!”
What is crazy to me about this bank, is that they are VERY QUICK to take money out of your account but REALLY slow to put it into your account. I have been having A LOT of problems with them lately, but I have reached my breaking point. First of all, I would like to state that I keep track of my checking account very thoroughly, I round up to the next dollar amount for nearly every purchase, and I write down every transaction immediately after I make it. A constant string of them taking out my biggest transactions first regardless of the date, multiple "new rules", and an online checking option that is COMPLETELY inaccurate have made sure that my account is almost constantly in jeopardy. The last straw happened today. On Thursday I checked my account, it told me that I had a check I wrote pending but that it hadn't gone through yet. Thursday night at 8pm I paid a bill online thinking that it wouldn't go through until the next business day, which makes pretty good sense to me, and by Friday my paychecks are automatically deposited and available for use. So imagine my surprise today when I check my account online and see that the check that was pending went through Thursday night leaving me with a balance of $5, and then directly after that it states that my account got credited for my paycheck being deposited and then directly AFTER that it states that I paid an overdraft fee. Nowhere on this account summary does it show that I went negative, and what's more the payment I made Thursday night isn't even posted (not even stating that it's pending, it's nowhere to be found). I find it hard to believe that when I was banking with Chase I had NO PROBLEMS (the only reason I switched was due to a loan I have with First Midwest, 1 account for everything as opposed to 2 seemed to make more sense), and now I apparently have no idea how to balance a check book according to the numerous "customer service" reps I've talked to. Looks like I'm switching back to Chase.

“Sneaky Unethical Overdraft Practices”
They are the worst when it comes to using sneaky tactics to get the most money out of overdraft fees. Nearly every policy they have is designed just to kick you when you're down. And seriously WHO reads every line of every TOU pamphlet your banks send out? You expect most major banks to work the same. You expect the teller at the window to give you accurate information. It's FIRST MIDWEST specifically, not every bank, as I have multiple accounts in various banks. They are really sneaky with their policies and rules ... not what you expect.
First of all, they will take your largest debit and apply it first, even if it is out of time/date order, in order to purposefully make your account go negative as much as possible as quickly as possible. Then they can charge you more $35 fees for the small $1 or $2 items last, EVEN IF THEY HAPPENED FIRST. They say "it's our policy to debit the bigger items first". It's apparently OK for them to make up policies that benefit them that are completely designed for extorting money from the customer.
Their online banking system is never "accurate", so even if it says your deposit went through on one day on your online bank statement, they'll tell you it didn't go through until the next day so they can charge you more fees. There is no way for you to know this, if you're making decisions based on your bank statements. They tell you one thing at the branch window and then another things after they screw up your account and steal your money.
They just make stuff up in order to squeeze more fees out of you. I've been a First Midwest customer for OVER 8 YEARS and I've had enough. I have an account at Chase and never have these problems with them. I'll be canceling my account with First Midwest as soon as I can.
