Local Bank

Pros: 1STBANK is locally owned and opperated with NO shareholders to make happy; plenty of Front Range locations and is one of the last banks to still offer a traditional overdraft line of credit. They also have the best customer service I have ever encountered at a bank or credit union. Cons: for whatever reason, 1STBANK had decided to move into Phoenix, AZ and has become less, Colorado-y (the debit and credit cards used to look like Colorado license plates which were very handsome, now Visa Debit is orange and the Visa "Gold" is green with white numbers and letters and looks very cheap). They also have very sneaky fees: for instance...free checking; however, after the first year, the Visa Debit card has a $10 annual fee....Chase, Wells Fargo and US Bank may not have "free: checking; however, with direct deposit, their fees are waived. Also, as they are a Front Range area bank, if you happen to need cash whilst visiting say, LA or Miami etc you will get hit with a foriegn ATM fee...I know other banks do this but if you have Chase, BofA etc etc you have a very good chance at finding one of their ATMs free of charge in most states. They have many locations; however, most are on some of the busiest roads in Denver. Another con is their antiquated online account management. It gets the job done but it seems very old.

Overall, I love 1STBANK because it has been in our family for years and I like the traditional feel that they have; however, with Chase, Wells Fargo and US Bank in our own backyard with fewer fees, it is increasingly hard to recommend 1STBANK.

Awful

I bank with several banks and this is the most difficult bank to do online bill pay through. Not only that but they have hidden fees and charges on accounts.

Interesting definition of a Debit Card

I have a checking account with First Bank and a debit card associated with it. Even though I have accounts at another bank I kept this account open b/c I have couple small automatic withdraws for bills and I small have kept the balance low. I assumed as long as my debit card goes through for purchases the fund is sufficient in my account - that is the definition of a debit card oppose yo the credit card. Well, after having the account for 16 years, I get a notice in the mail saying my fund is insufficient. I get on line and find out they allowed 7 small charges (all under 20.00) to go through on my debit card and charged me 34.00 per transaction due to insufficuent fund. They tell me they did it as a courtesy not to decline my card. You are not being courteous when you're charging an outrageous fee to make money. The courteous thing would have been to call me or not let the charges go through since the account has no fund and it's a DEBIT CARD! I doubt they would have been courteous enough to let the charges go through if the 7 charges were in the hundreds each. I called them and the teller and the supervisor explained their policy and had great excuses which in the end it translated to " Fuck you, we're the bank, we make the rules, and we make money when you don't check your balances daily even on debit cards and this process was disclosed in fine prints in the BOOKLET we gave you when you opened the account 16 years ago". I feel so ripped off. I do plan on fighting them on this before transferring the account to another bank. I will post the result.

They are slow to post deposits, then charge $90-$180 in overdraft fees on money waiting to be posted.

I am fed up with them and am going to the trouble of changing banks. I have no debit card, no ATM card - it is a dark ages checking account.

Friendly, hassle free banking with REAL people that answer when you call :)

Ok guys listen up. This bank is the shizz. No fees no minimum balance no limit on transfers (Internet from savings to checking) or if there is its def MUCH higher then most. Let's see suckers (dum-dums) in the lobby more and more popping up all over Colorado. If you call with a dispute they are very agreeable and cooperative on reversing the transaction.... Pretty speedy about allotting you're deposits if checks (and obviously cash)...(some banks hold those checks and do not make the balance available FOR DAYS).

This bank is local (Colorado, California, and Arizona) and as such really treats you like a smaller company usually does: like you matter. My only wahh about the whole thing is that I go to college in Washington and was devastated to learn that there were no Firstbanks here. It seems like there should be since there are Firstbanks in California. Firstbank, come on down to Washington you guys would THRIVE here and put this Chase and Bank of America fatcats to shame. Seriously DO IT! Oh yea and uh when you do set up shop in Seattle go ahead and feel free to hire me on! Thanks Firstbank I LOVE YOU!

Great!

Firstbank is a very strong bank. They are up with the times and offer more services than others. 24hr customer service(with a real person)! They call when there's a problem or you will be overdrawn, and you can set up account alerts so you don't overdraw. The people they hire are first rate and always professional! Great place. Oh yeah! They own the 1stbank center, so you get 24hour prior ticketing for any show you like! Great for a sold out type of show!
