Poor customer service, irresponsible fees, terrible organizational skills

I've been charged several 'Returned Mail' fees when my address has been correct and updated for months. The bank refused to reverse a few of those fees because I didn't catch them within 90 days on an account I rarely use.

When travelling abroad I notified the bank and they still froze my account. It took international phone calls and several emails to have the situation rectified...and almost a week of travel time scrambling for money. This cost me lots of additional credit card fees that I wouldn't have had to incur.

On more than one occasion in took 2-3 attempts to update my contact information or make changes to my account.

Debit Card Overdraft fees even if you opted out !

Be very careful if you make payments using your Guaranty Bank account or debit card information. Even if you opted out of their overdraft coverage they WILL NOT decline payments sending you into an overdaft situation, will charge you $37 each, and then send your account into a spiral for even more bounce fees. They are shysters just waiting to trap you by their terms. STAY FAR AWAY of Guaranty Bank no matter how convenient they or luring their promotions seem to be. Even their own staff are embarrassed by having to enforce the conniving shenanigans (legalized robbery) of their policies and terms.

Awful

I dont know how anyone can call this place a bank. They do NO lending at all, infact they were warned by the FDIC to increase their cash from all the bad loans they created before they ceased lending (take a look at the gov't rating site). They also really try to push you into overdraft protection programs you have to pay a monthly fee for! If you don't sign up for one of those, you then get to hear about their advance program, like a pay day lending store, its real trashy. I think they prey on people that overdraft their accounts or have trouble getting accounts elsewhere. Last time I was in the bank, the teller told me she was so unhappy trying to push these programs on people, she had found a new job, luckily for me I had already found a new bank!

Omg Help!!

My contact at this bank left (smart!) i'm still on the phone holding and/or being transferred! I have asked for the municipal finance department in about 5 different ways, "public funds, municipal funds, muni finance, cfo's office, investments" and they haven't a clue! I've been hung up on twice. I've waited on hold forever just to be sent back to the orginal menu. Have been transferred to people who say they don't deal with governments etc. Please educate your people!

Getting worse everyday for the past 5 years

Bank was friendly, good customer service but seems like every year they get less and less helpful. They Charge more in fees then the average bank and just for checking my balance at another atm i was charged 2.50, then another 2.50 by them for withdrawing money there PLUS the 2.50 the wells fargo atm charged me. They wouldnt even reverse a fee even tho its so small. There was never before a fee for checking your balance until recently, how ever i was unaware.

Great Banking Experience

Guaranty bank has great free checking. On the type of checking account i decided to open i get free checks for life with unlimited check writing!!! The type of checking account i opened also earns interest, gives me free bill pay, free visa check card, and all of this requires no minimum balance. It is worth it to look into the different types of checking accounts guaranty bank has to offer because guaranty bank is a bank that truly understands what the words free checking really mean. I recommend going into the evanston illinois branch and talking to the assistant branch manager, rhoda frost. She will happily talk to you about the different account options. She is very helpful and patient. Take advantage of truly free checking. Stop getting ripped off by banks that demand direct deposit and try to limit the number of checks you are allowed to write. Put a stop to high "account maintenance fees" that other banks charge. Guaranty bank is the bank that believes in putting the customer first.

Terrible. The customer service is non-existent.

I asked a teller for a twenty dollar withdrawal above my available limit (I was depositing a check which was more than enough to cover, but the check was going to be on a two day hold). This teller had the audacity to tell me she couldn't do it, even though I explained I had been a customer for over five years. I had just been rehired (lost my previous job in the crisis) and had recently moved to Madison and was (am) flat broke until I receive my first paycheck.

Since banking with Guaranty Bank, the service has become less personal and the tellers try to sell you products that will actually cause you to overdraft if you are not made of money. And if you are made of money, they don't give you special treatment (which you'll see by their limited, if not non-existent, investment options) because they prey on the poor. In fact, they are located in primarily impoverished areas throughout their out of state locations.

Guaranty Bank, a terrible company

Guaranty Bank pays its employee well below what other competitors are paying. They treat us like dogs and force us to sell products that they know only hurt people. Ex. Clear coverage and Easy advance. DO NOT BANK HERE!
