Linda is rude and condicending!!! Terrible customer service, she passed the buck to the online people and basically wouldnt help me at all. I have called about my issue at least 10 times with no resolution. Apparently this branch doesnt want customers!!

I'm leaving M&T TODAY! FED UP!

M&T is my first bank that I have had being that I am only 18 years old. When I first opened it a few months ago, I got the free checking and had a savings account(that I had previously opened at 17) linked to my checking. At first everything was great, I had my pays from my part time job set to direct deposit and everything. But lately it's has just been a downhill ride. I will get paid and use my card to buy something small, like say $5, and the next thing I know, I get charged not one but TWO insufficient funds fees each $38.50. I went to the bank and brought up my concern and I was told that I would be refunded because they see that the funds were there. I still have not been refunded.

I also do not like how long it takes for checks to clear. I have started a new job recently and have not been able to set up direct deposit yet so I just deposited my check on Friday, it is now Wednesday and it still has not cleared! How long am I supposed to wait around broke?

The thing that really pushed me to my limit just happened today and yesterday. Being that my pay check still has not cleared, as of yesterday I had $33.07 in my account. I went to purchase a $2 Gatorade yesterday and I was declined. After checking my balance multiple times and seeing that I should have had the money to buy a juice, I called customer service. Without my knowledge, THEY CANCELLED MY CARD until that check clears! Now I have no access to ANY of my money!

So today when I wake up I check my balance to see if the check cleared. My balance is now negative $7500! Where did that come from!? It was just $33 yesterday and I haven't made any purchases and I never spent that much! I am fed up with M&T and I am going there TODAY to CLOSE MY ACCOUNT!

Check Cashing

I have been with M&T since they bought out my previous bank.

I wrote a check to someone who then tried to cash it at my bank. M&T refused to cash it unless that person opened an account or paid a service fee. In order not to incur a fee I would have had to take time off from work and cash the check in person. I have been dealing with banks for over 40 years and find this tactic inexcusable. Of course their personnel said there is nothing they can do since it is their policy -- well there is certainly something I can do -- find another bank.

AWFUL! Stay away from M&T Bank

M&T used to be a good, mid-sized bank that had all the benefits and customer service of a community bank. I have been a customer at M&T for over 10 years, and I am switching everything I have to another bank. I have had nothing but trouble with them starting about 4 years ago, and M&T has gotten progressively worse since. I have experienced almost all of the bad experiences other reviewers have detailed here. Customer service is awful. I was LIED TO BY CUSTOMER SERVICE telling me they were not able to switch from e-statements to mail. I finally got a hold of someone who told me that this was not true. I don't appreciate being lied to, M&T. Also their MOBILE APP IS TERRIBLE. I made several payments using the app that never processed. I stopped using the app. They CHARGE FOR EVERYTHING and the charges change every 6 months. I get a new copy of M&Ts policy every 6 months in the mail. I donâ??t know who reads it, but clearly itâ??s a method to cover their a$$ with NEW CHARGES and random charges. This is not a customer friendly way to operate, but it is a very effective business model to build revenue. I would consider being a stock holder as long as they have a strong legal team (potential lawsuits for fee generating practices), but I will never be a customer again.

Personnel in Cabin John branch are very pleasant. Generally positive.

I started with M&T (nee 1st National Bank of MD) because of proximity and they were the only back to give me a free business checking account. The personnel are very pleasant at my branch. I use them only as a convenient place to use an ATM or to make small deposits.

Rates are poor, but on a par with most banks. Rediculous fee was imposed, but when I objected they made a deal in which they continue to charge a fee, but immediately credit my account for the amount of the fee so that checking remains free.

The best service is at a good credit union where I do most of my banking.

Horrible....

This bank was excellent when I joined them 4 years ago....now all of a sudden it costs me $25 a month to have the same account that I have had there for years...and their only explanation is that they are new fees and they no longer offer free checking. I will be switching as soon as I get a new account open elsewhere!

Disgusted

Thank god this is not my primary bank and let's just say I will never do any banking with them again. Trying to speak to anyone with any sort of intelligence is near impossible. Everyone I have spoken with has no desire to help me with my problem. Worst customer service I've ever had to deal with.

Great.....except the hours of operation.

What bank these days only stays open until 4pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday? Less than a quarter of a mile away from this branch are two other banks (Metro and Integrity) that stay open until 730 pm EVERY DAY!!! As much as this branch is terrific, and the people are great, if they do not adjust to the times, they will lose business.

Absolutely awful in every way.

Our mortgage was sold to M&T a few years ago and it has been the worst experience I've had in over 15 years of doing business with banks. When you call for information, you are told that there is a 3-5 day callback policy and someone will get back to you in that time. Most of the time, this never occurs or when it finally does, it's at VERY odd times (9pm, 4am, 6am). Asking for a supervisor gets you no where except hung up on.

The website for mortgage services is sub-par compared to other companies. Service charges are outrageous and not in line with other banks. I can't wait to get away from them.

Worst Bank In The History Of Banks!!!!! If I Could Give Them A 0, I Would!

If you transfer over 4 times, you are charged for every transfer you make! Being a college student, i had bills that needed to be paid and transferring was the only option to pay those bills! It was never explained to me that i couldn't transfer more than 4 times a month without being charged. Because they charged me for transferring, it put me in overdraft, where they charged me an overdraft fee! Come on now! I'm a college student trying to make a living and going to school. When i explained my situation, they told me that there is nothing they can do for me because it is not a bank error. I asked if they could do a one time courtesy refund and they said absolutely not. So i said that i was going back to wells fargo because i never had that problem before. M and t stated that this is not wells fargo and that m and t was not a good fit for me anyway. What the hell does that even mean? Then when i stated that i was closing my accounts, they stated that is a personal preference and that i should do it. What kind of customer service is that?! Needless to say, i went right over and closed my account. They can't even help out college students going to school to be a doctor... Oh yeah, they even charge you 50 cents every time you use debit! M and t might be everywhere, but i would rather drive 50 miles a day out of the way to a different bank than deal with these people ever again! Terrible customer service and they do not even care about you. If there is a wells fargo around you, i would tell you to go there instead of m and t and if you don't, you are making a huge mistake. I have never been so disrespected by a bank customer service in all my life.

The Worst Bank Experiance

I have been with M & T Bank for 4 years. When I opened the account , there wasn't any fee. No information, no notice, all of sudden, they start charging fees for my account. I am going to close the account immediately. Their costumer service is horrible.
