“Horrible bank. Can't wait to close my account there”
First they took advantage of us by charging us $74 in overdraft fees. When we asked that it be waived as we were not interested in their overdraft protection, they told us that there is nothing they can do because we are asking in more than 14 days after the charges were billed. This is nothing but an excuse. One of our transactions was $15. The overdraft charge that it cased was $37.
Then I locked out my account. The first rep I spoke to just unlocked it. Then I ended up locking it again 2 weeks later. I ended up with a different rep who had a completely different standard of what he will be needing to unlock the account. This one wanted the card or account number in addition to the usual social security, etc. verification info. I did not have it with me so he refused to unlock my account. So now great I have to call again later.
I need one more month to transfer all electronic payments out of it and then I can't wait to close the account. Hopefully I'll have an opportunity to tell the rep when I'm closing the account that they are truly "!@#$ bank."

“Couldn't be any worse if they tried.”
I could go write a book on the bad experiences I've had with this bank, but for the sake of brevity I'll just say, "Do NOT open an account here." By the way, I'm a stockholder in TCF.

“hold checks”
in todays age you can go to a ATM IN Japan and take money out of your account in Michigan. But try and deposit a check from another bank into their bank. hold for two days. i changed my bank to chase. however, every bank i went to said in todays electronic age they have access to your paycheck money immedicately. i was told that TCF bank computers are a few decades old. in chase i take a picture of my check, even if its from Guam and by 5 p.m. that same days i have access to the money. with TCF. even if an ATM says mmomney is available,or online wiut Tcf it says the transaction has been posted a check will still get paid but they will show it as a bounced check. Terrible, inconvenience

“Worst Ever!!!”
This bank would rather make a buck than make customers happy! I have no idea how they are still in business! When you call you can not speak to any one in charge because there is apparently no one in charge!! Horrible terrible bank!

“Not very positive ”
TCF branch in Champaign is run by part-time student tellers. I had to wait for more than 10 minutes while three bank people standing there had nothing to do. Very inefficient and not professional for banking experience. At the end, they do ask you for donation though...

“After 35 years of loyalty I didn't even get a handshake or Thank You!”
After 35years of loyalty to TCF for all my banking I sat in the Branch Managers office yesterday for 15min with not one word of exchange but sign here, account is now closed! I never felt so invisible, disposable and unappreciated. He didn't offer a word of Thank You or how else can TCF serve you or meet your needs. I can't believe they keep him around as Branch Manager, please get him some training on customer service, a smile, handshake, and manners go a long way!!

“Horrible!!! Horrible!!! Horrible!!!”
Tcf is the worst bank in the world. If you have a mortgage with them do not have a checking account too. They will steal money out of your checking account to make your mortgage payments. They are rude, threatening, and they love to use fear tactics. I would never recommend them to anyone - ever!

“Terrible”
Paid off a $340k loan + interest in less then 30 days. Loan officer brad willis signed off on it. A month later i get a bill for an additional $448. 00. Loan officer told me i would get a credit but instead i get a bill. When confronted with this issue he gave me a load of crap which exactly what it was. I paid the bill and closed all my accts. I would never do business with this bank again and never! Never trust this loan officer. Worst experience i have ever had!

“TCF Bank is The Worst Bank on the Planet!”
I've had many problems with them in the past, but have banked with them for years because it's very convenient inside a Jewel Food Store. The other reviewer is correct, they lie all the time and they're very sneaky. My most recent problem is one that's put me over the edge and prompted me to warn others! I was encouraged to open a brand new free checking acct. recently because I was having issues with my other account and I wanted a "fresh" place to have my tax refund direct deposited. So, I (against my better judgement) did open this account with 25.00 and the next thing I know I went to make a deposit, and teller lets me know I"m under! How can this be, I didn't even do anything except open the account? She tells me some agency named American Recovery, some how associated with them, has attached 107.84 hold debit to my account based on some supposed 6 year old account I had with TCF? I told her I didn't know what she was talking about. So, she gave a phone number of American Recovery, and suggested I talk to them. First I called TCF customer service from the number off the back of my debit card. They said they didn't have any info, just to call this American. I called them and was told that it 's from some old closed account back in 2007, that there was an apparent balance owed? I asked why I wouldn't have been notified or taken from my current account. She said back in 2007 a notice was sent to some address- I never even lived at!! She said I had to call TCF, she didn't know anything else! I did, complained and demanded proof of old statements last week! This morning I go online to view my account and saw they took the 107.84! I called TCF, and got some "call center" in MN! I told this guy the same thing, you can't just take money someone's account, it's against the fair credit and reporting act! We went around and around, he said he'd send me the last three statements and I could call back and complain then! I'm advising everyone DO NOT OPEN AN ACCOUNT WITH TCF
