“They do not even deserve 1 star.”
I have had nothing but problems with them. I took a cash deposit into the branch one day and they "lost" it causing me a lot of extra stress I did not need since I was 8 months pregnant and my father had passed away 2 days before.
Now I look at my account and they charged me a $37 NSF fee because a large item that came through unexpectedly put my account in a negative pending status, and even though a payroll check cleared before the item did they said a $4 purchase I made earlier in the day (when it was not negative) cleared while I have a negative pending status so they charged me. They refused to refund the NSF even though no negative showed on my account.
Guess what TCF, I will be getting my $37 back when I move to one of the three local banks that are offering $100 to sign up with them, and as soon as my account is closed and free of you I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau!

“Horrific, there really is no other word for it.”
I've held an account with TCF bank for over 14 years, and when I stated I was considering closing my account, there was zero sympathy or interest in keeping my business. They simply do not care anything about who you are. Like another customer review stated, you feel invisible and helpless.
I check my balance daily online, and it always stated I had positive money in my account, however, once I deposited my latest paycheck, they claim I was overdrawn since the money hadn't cleared. I asked them to waive the fee, which they nicely had done for me about 4 years ago, and the manager rudely mumbled to me, "Your problem, not ours."
I called the customer service number, and received equally terrible customer service. I spoke to a supervisor who told me he would be extremely generous and give me back $15 of my $37 overdraft fee. I informed him to either refund the entire amount or don't bother. He clearly wasn't even listening to me and then countered with "OK, how about $25 back?" I was furious and told him not only would I be cancelling my account, but so would my family members. Once again, zero care. They really DO NOT care. With all their non-stop promotions to attract new business, it's clear they have no time or effort keeping loyal customers.

“The worst of the Worst”
I asked if they wanted to know why I was closing my accounts & they were completely uninterested. They freeze your savings (no notice) & you have to go into the bank to unfreeze, This was for "MY protection? The "free" is dishonest, they charge $10 a month.
I had my daughters listed as heirs when I opened accounts and they would not acknowledge that. I asked what would happen if I passed and was told my daughters would have real problems getting my money,
This bank scares me. Thankfully my money is safe with real customer service people across the street.

“Couldn't be any worse if they tried.”
I could go write a book on the bad experiences I've had with this bank, but for the sake of brevity I'll just say, "Do NOT open an account here." By the way, I'm a stockholder in TCF.

“hold checks”
in todays age you can go to a ATM IN Japan and take money out of your account in Michigan. But try and deposit a check from another bank into their bank. hold for two days. i changed my bank to chase. however, every bank i went to said in todays electronic age they have access to your paycheck money immedicately. i was told that TCF bank computers are a few decades old. in chase i take a picture of my check, even if its from Guam and by 5 p.m. that same days i have access to the money. with TCF. even if an ATM says mmomney is available,or online wiut Tcf it says the transaction has been posted a check will still get paid but they will show it as a bounced check. Terrible, inconvenience

“Worst Ever!!!”
This bank would rather make a buck than make customers happy! I have no idea how they are still in business! When you call you can not speak to any one in charge because there is apparently no one in charge!! Horrible terrible bank!

“Not very positive ”
TCF branch in Champaign is run by part-time student tellers. I had to wait for more than 10 minutes while three bank people standing there had nothing to do. Very inefficient and not professional for banking experience. At the end, they do ask you for donation though...

“After 35 years of loyalty I didn't even get a handshake or Thank You!”
After 35years of loyalty to TCF for all my banking I sat in the Branch Managers office yesterday for 15min with not one word of exchange but sign here, account is now closed! I never felt so invisible, disposable and unappreciated. He didn't offer a word of Thank You or how else can TCF serve you or meet your needs. I can't believe they keep him around as Branch Manager, please get him some training on customer service, a smile, handshake, and manners go a long way!!

“Horrible!!! Horrible!!! Horrible!!!”
Tcf is the worst bank in the world. If you have a mortgage with them do not have a checking account too. They will steal money out of your checking account to make your mortgage payments. They are rude, threatening, and they love to use fear tactics. I would never recommend them to anyone - ever!

“Terrible”
Paid off a $340k loan + interest in less then 30 days. Loan officer brad willis signed off on it. A month later i get a bill for an additional $448. 00. Loan officer told me i would get a credit but instead i get a bill. When confronted with this issue he gave me a load of crap which exactly what it was. I paid the bill and closed all my accts. I would never do business with this bank again and never! Never trust this loan officer. Worst experience i have ever had!
