Good then garbage

I've been trying to get a truck cause I need 4 wheel drive because of where I work so I applied for a loan because I have their insurance and a checking account with them so I figured they'd help me since they have been for a couple years and cause they say they help us military folks anyway. So I got approved for a loan up to 7800 dollars so I go to get a vehicle for that much and they so well we can only give you 6500 and told me they only finance 80% of the cars value so I found another vehicle for 8900 and asked if they could raise it to that and they said I'd have to send in a bunch if stuff and I told them I didn't wanna fool with it and told them just to give me the 7800 and I'd pay the rest with my money and they made up. Some bs excuse why I couldn't without sending the stuff in so I sent it in and got denied so I'm stuck with a car that's about to fall apart cause I can't get no financing. I went to another bank called pioneer services, its for military, and they said they accept any kind of credit and then denied me. So because of banks screwing be over I might lose my job if my car don't hold on too much longer.

Horrible for travelers or overseas workers

I work in Afghanistan and have had several experiences with USAA complicating my vacations. When they are not disabling my debit/credit cards that have been made availabled for other countries they are busy complicating my credit report. Recently they put a fraud alert on my Equifax credit report when they were not able to get ahold of me via cell phone. Its the weekend in the states and I am on a 12 hour difference here. So getting in contact with somebody in states is difficult when you have to wake up at 1am to make a satelite phone call from a recreation facility.

USAA MORTGAGE DEPARTMENT SUCKS-STAY AWAY!

I want to warn everybody to STAY AWAY FROM THE USAA mortgage department. They are incompetent and misleading. I lost the house of my dreams and over $2000.00 in appraisal fees, inspection costs and lost earnest money. They did not disclose the basic loan requirements stating the list would reach into the thousands (Boyd). Everytime I thought I was done with the required items, the "underwriters" would ask for more. In the end I lost.

Bureaucratic BS

I opened an account online with fortunately small deposit, several days later my account was frozen for security purposes. I was told that they required a copy of my social security card for ID verification. As my social security card was misplaced I asked if a copy of my passport would suffice, I was told it would. I sent in a copy of my passport but my account was not unlocked. The reason I was given was that I had not sent in a copy of my social security card. I asked them to close my account and return my opening deposit, I was told my deposit would not be returned until I supplied a copy of my social security card.

Note that the Social Security web site states that the physical social security card is not necessary as long as you know your number.

Very poor performance by USAA!!

First, I have been with USAA for 38 years. I have never missed a payment on my insurance (personal home, 2 rental homes, and apartment complex, an ocean boat, my Malibu ski boat, two trailers), I financed my C6 Corvette (paid off), C5, TransAm with no late or missed payments for 20 years. My home equity is paid off, no late payments. My health insurance, never late. But because I had to short sell one home due to George W. crashing the economy, they won't work with me at all on my credit card line, and increase my apartment complex insurance by 50% a few months ago. DO NOT USE USAA!!! My Chase account looked at the situation and fixed all credit limits. DON'T USE USAA!

Obtaining a USAA mortgage was one of the worst experiences of my life.

I have been a member of USAA for 47years. Love the company..have referred many friends and family over the years.

Decided to get a mortgage with USAA because I felt they would be easy to work with and they know my history. Our credit rating is above 8 and we owned two homes debt free.

To say my experience was a nightmare would be an understatement. Total incompetence.. In the beginning when we were getting pre approved, things went well. As soon as we started the application process it was like someone from outer space took over the case. I know that banking regulations are very strict and all things must be verified. However, there is no excuse for losing documents, not returning phone calls a and generally having very little knowledge of financial situations that are not basic w-2s. Our processor was incompetent. I am very disappointed that USAA would subject their clients to this treatment. I know this person would never be hired to discuss insurance with USAA clients..so why the difference with the mortgage department?

I am in hopes that someone from USAA will read this and get back to me. As a long time member I think I am deserving of that courtesy.

They have been ahead of the curve since I became a customer in 1974.

While they are not available for everyone to use, to me they are a bright spot in a dark, faceless industry. I have been using online banking since their first day of existence since they have so few offices. They always seem ahead of the curve with technology and they are very responsive to every question and e-mail.

They don't win all of my business as some loan and mortgage rates are cheaper, but they are always my first stop.

Usaa Is Not About Their Members, Its About The Money They Can Get From You

I have been a member of usaa for over 34 years and i trusted them. I have an amex credit card which i have paid on time for over 2 years. They turned around and closed it on me. They claim my credit report wasn't that good so can you explain to me why i have nine accounts in good standing with no late payments. Did they bother to consider that i made payments on time or that i was a member in good standing for 34 years, that my family all have accounts with usaa? No. They just don't care. They listened to my complaint and said there was nothing that could be done, yes there is, they can fix it but they won''t. So now, because i paid my credit card on time, this is going against my credit report, nice going usaa. I can't say what i really think of your company on paper but i am sure you know what i am thinking. Don't advertise that you care about your members when it is nothing but a lie and a scam of a company. Fix this.

Be careful! they don't keep promises and lie

I signed up for USAA hoping to use Deposit @ Home. despite reading the terms carefully, before joining I was led to believe I would be able to somehow get that feature. After opening and making an initial transfer I was told I would not be eligible.

I asked to close my account immediately (less than 24h after opening it) and they said sure. after two minues they said it was closed - when I asked for confirmation they said they don't give it. I insisted. after 5 min on hold I was told that my account can't be closed after all for another 10 days! Lies!!!

Criminally incompetent

USAA was happy to have my business until I applied for a credit card. Upon that application, I was locked out of my online USAA account. When I called to see what the problem was, USAA informed me it required my driver's license, a utility bill, and my social security card to prove my identity.

I scanned and emailed those documents, and was told my account would be accessible in 48 hours. After 72 hours and still being locked out, I called and was told additional proof was required: USAA wished to see my passport, and, for whatever reason, the rental agreement I had with my landlord.

I played along; everything was scanned and emailed with the same promise: My account would be available within 48 hours. Three days later I received an email notification that a decision had been made on my credit card application, but because I was still locked out of my online account I had to call. USAA informed me of its right to not do business with me.

Despite a perfect credit history of 37 years (never missing a payment on any account) USAA simply terminated my account without explanation after requiring I submit everything except a DNA sample to prove my identity.

With banks going under left and right, I sincerely hope USAA is next in line. This bank does not deserve anyone's business.

Enraged At Usaa!!!

I felt compelled by common decency to inform anyone considering opening or maintaining an account with them that they're every bit as blood sucking and fubar as your next bank. Here is my experience in detail:

my account was overdrawn last year, but the debt was eliminated because i was forced to file bankruptcy to delay foreclosure. Following the bankruptcy, usaa took money from my account in an attempt to recover the debt. After my attorney contacted them and faxed the required paperwork, the money was returned to my account. Fast forward to about a week ago when they did the same thing again! Again, my attorney faxed them the bankruptcy paperwork. This time, however, they're saying they will not reinstate the money to my account. I'm currently unemployed and i was depending on that money from my tax return to survive until i'm able to find work. Proudly putting it to military members and their families ought to be their new tagline!
