“PLEASE DON'T BOTHER”
If you have plenty of time to waste online & on the phone - this is your bank. Rates are not worth it you can't move money in or out
“What You'll "Discover" Is Incompetence”
Bought a CD in mid-August 2009 after having had a good experience with a Discover CD beginning in the previous year. I had to call repeatedly to get them to make the electronic transfer from my checking account to fund the puchase. Finally it showed up online, but the amount had been mistakenly DOUBLED. I understood straightaway that this could only be trouble, and not a windfall! Many calls to customer service since, and the account online is still a shambles, and not a dime in interest has been paid to me yet. Worse, these geniuses went into my checking account again and attempted to withdraw an amount equal to my original purchase, presumably in a scatterbrained attempt to "reconcile" their mistake. You need to know that as of this writing, the only way the reps can communicate with their Brain Trust at headquarters is by e-mail -- good luck, dear reader!
“Wow! What a terrible customer service at Discover bank!”
I am very unhappy with Discover Bank. How did they get the three stars rating?
I trusted their good ratings and a few month ago I became their customer. A month later I apply to open CD with electronic funding. It took bank almost two weeks to verify and finalise application even though I was already their existing customer. Of course by this time the interest rates dropped and I got a lower rates. Also account opening and maturity dates had also shifted to a later dates and I was counting on release of the funds at a specific date.
I've talked to 8 different account managers at this bank and everyone told me different stories, which indicates that people are not properly trained, not honest and sloppy. In my opinion, this is a big issue and especially giving the nature of their industry.
I will never do business with Discover Bank ever again.
“I've had issues”
Discover claims they sent me a check for my CD that matured. I never received it and asked for a copy of the check with my signature. Two months later they still have not sent it.
“Discover Bank Broken ”
I deposited $100,000 into my Discover Money Market account. I had them electronicly draft the money out of my checking account at my local bank. I think they call it an ACH debit. The money cleared my account at my local bank and Discover deposited the money in to my account. About 5 days later Discover reversed the 100k deposit and debit my Money Market account. When I called in the representative was a little confused and said the memos show they never got the 100k. I have now called several times and even sent a bank statement showing they took the money out of my local bank account. It is has now been over 3 weeks since I made that deposit and they still have not put the money into Money Market account. I am getting very concerned about by 100k and am considering hiring a lawyer at this point. Stay away from Discover Bank!!!
“too complicated as an online bank”
I have 2 adresses a summer and a different winter one and they only accept one at a time. Both adresses were in their system at one time.
My CD was maturing 6/3 and they only could send it to my winter address, it is now a month later and I still don't have it, they are looking for it, since it was sent on 6/8 and probably could not be forwarded.
There are not enough possibilities of changing things through the internet, too many calls to be made or having to write (fax)them.
I am letting my CD's run out and not renew them.
“Never get YOUR MONEY back”
I had a CD but had to close it early. I have now been 3 weeks trying to get my money returned. First they told me I had to receive it by check (they wire transfered it out of my account) and I NEVER received the check. Every time I call I get someone new and have to tell the whole story again. I have called repeatedly and get a differnet response each time. I have been told the check is lost, that they have issured another and it is being overnighted, that they're verifiying a stop payment on the 1st check and they will call me back. I'm really pissed and worried that I will NEVER get my money back. I WILL NEVER AND I REPEAT NEVER DEAL WITH THEM AGAIN. THERE IS SOMETHING TO BE SAID ABUT DOING BUSINESS WITH LOCAL BANKS. BEWARE UNLESS YOU ARE RICH AND CAN AFFORD TO TAKE A CHANCE. I FEEL LIKE I'VE BEEN SCAMMED!!!
“Recession-busting rates!”
I would like to give Discover the "you are awesome" award. More specifically, thanks for the great rates on your CDs. Definitely should consider these CDs as a tool in your arsenal if you want to ride out this recession and make money doing it.
“Special Rates on 3 and 5 Year CDs”
Discover Bank has special rates on 3 and 5 year CDs. Plus their 12 month CD is good too! I took one of each...its time to start saving!
“So Far, so good, I'm Happy”
I have been very happy with the service from Discover Bank. My only regret was I didn't know they gave a $50 incentive for applying for your acct. on-line which I would have taken advantage of if I had only been made aware. In these hard times everyone could use $50.00 extra. Other than that I have been very pleased with the way the bank has handled my account.
Sincerely,
AMM
