Excellent Banking Experience, so far!

On October 23, 2009, I opened a special offer Orange CD. The online and straight forward processing was simply great. As with many online banking experiences, you are constantly affraid there will be some instruction or block you did not check and end up with a product or agreement you did not want! I believe online banking is the future and the greatest successes will go to those online Banks offering customers, not only competative rates, but uncluttered web-site designs, security confidence, and straight forward transaction processing. Although I've read some horrible reviews and did take them all serious, I still opened a CD? My initial experiences with ING were great, but I will continue to update my review!

I've had issues

I read all the comments and thought this was a bank worth looking into. However, they are just a bait and switch bank. I opened a CD with them, funded online and gave them all the information and registered my external account, etc. Yet when I actually saw the rate that they locked my CD into, it was lower than what I signed up for. This is despite the fact they had all the information on my account for over 6 days before they changed the rate. Customer service was useless as well. Once my CD matures, that is the last they will see of any of my money.

Recommended

I've had a good experience with this bank. I was using it for savings until they dropped their interest rates very low. I still have an IRA and a CD with them. The online banking is very user-friendly and you can easily transfer money to and from external accounts. I would recommend this bank for savings purposes. I have not used their 100% electronic checking account or bill payment services so I can't speak to that.

decent, but there are better ones out there.

I've used ING for a few years now. I've been happy with them for the most part. Recently though, the interest rate has dropped substantially and is now less than many of their competitors. I also haven't been able to link their site with BofA's "My Portfolio" for a long time. I've been mostly underwhelmed with ING's site since the beginning.

Not Worth Higher Interest Rates

This bank is not only too inconvenient to make up for its higher interest rates, but it has horrible customer service as well. Due to the fact that the company 1). has no local branches, 2). "doesn't do" paper checks, 3). "doesn't do" wire transfers (unless you have a verified link to an account at another bank ... the process for which takes several days), 4). "doesn't do" certified checks, and 5). stonewalls customers at the "manager" level (one level up from the "associates" who answer the banks' 800 numbers, my husband and I had to reschedule an otherwise perfectly well-organized closing on the purchase of a home that had been scheduled for over a month. The various "associates" and "managers" gave us cyclical advice and suggestions for what should have been an easy access to OUR money in THEIR accounts ... and when it didn't work, they later claimed that other "associates" and "managers" shouldn't have been giving us that advice in the first place ... but then refused to assist us further in accessing OUR money. DO NOT BANK WITH ING Direct no matter how high their rates are.

Excellent On-Line Banking!

Opened a savings account last year (2008). Easy with excellent security features. Also, after a nominal waiting period, I can transfer funds from ING's savings to my checking account at a national bank. I can highly recommend ING!

easy navigation

I have 14 CD's with ING. They have the easiest website to navigate. It's extremely user friendly. Access to account information, balances, etc are easy to find. New CD's are easy to purchase. While a few offer slightly higher rates, I recommend ING.

Rate is better

I find ING DIRECT's rate better than most banks. If I have some extra money, but not ready to open a CD â this is where would I put it.
