“Smooth transition from National City”
My account has changed hands three times in recent years, starting with Fidelity Federal Savings, which was bought by Provident Bank, which was bought by National City, which was merged into PNC. The switchover from National City to PNC took place two weekends ago, and everything has gone smoothly with my accounts--cards, online access, statements, etc.
“Fees, fees, and fees”
It used to be that overdraft fees are for checks... you write a check that your checking account can't cover, and you get hit with overdraft fee to save you the embarrassment of a bounced check. PNC changed their policy so that you can get overdraft fees even when withdrawing money from an ATM !! No more "insufficient fund" message, but they just give you the money along with a $30 fee. On top of that, they charge you an additional $7 PER DAY for any account that's overdraft.
These guys are loan sharks in disguise. While these fees don't hurt me personally, this policy disgusts me. I hope the corporate execs creating these policies burn in HELL because the people these banks hurt the most are those people trying to make ends meet. There's no decency nor moral responsibility left in this society.
I'm searching for a different bank that can simply tell me, "you don't have enough money in your account." Period.
“PNC = simple and great ”
I moved to pittsburgh a few months ago and decided that since PNC was everywhere, I should just bank with them. Very easy to open my account, no deposit needed! I got the PNC Virtual Wallet and it has changed my life. It is a little tricky to set up initially, so be prepared to spend some time getting all the kinks worked out. But once you do, you WILL NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT BILLS EACH MONTH! Yeah that's right. I put in to send Kia my lease amount every month on the same day for the same amount, and it just does it for me. Checks are basically obsolete for me now. Its reall great because my bills just get paid, and I do not have to write check after check.
I also have a high intrest savings account attached to my checking account, and can see and graph and chart what i am spending my money on, and how much i want to save. I really recomend it!
“Wow! What a great bank!”
I moved to PNC after having some trouble with TD Bank. My wife and I opened a joint savings and checking account. We both have check cards attached to the accounts. The customer service so far has been excellent. Everything was clearly explained when we opened the accounts and I ever received $75 cash and 30 free checks because I work for a corporate partner. So far the online banking and bill pay have been excellent and are fee free. I am completely satisfied customer and would HIGHLY recommend this bank to others.
“Virtual Wallet is an excellent way to do banking”
I moved to PNC after some issues with TD. The way PNC can link your checking, savings, credit card and reserve account all togeter is a nice feature which protects you from overdraft fees. The online access is great and there is an iPhone app for it! Very happy after moving to this bank.
“Beware this bank! Must be run by the Mafia!!!”
PNC must be run by the Mafia!!! We tried to get out of some small business loans
and the breakage fees almost exceeded what we had paid back over the last 5 years.
Our banking fees were excessive, especially on the merchant services and the
deposits (except for cash) took much longer to hit than previously. Merchant deposits weren't hitting until late afternoon and Amex took over 5 days. They
would return checks and hit us with fees, then the deposits would hit. Everything in
the same day. Beyond belief!!! Where is government regulation and help for
the small business?!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS BANK!!
“Avoid PNC at all costs”
I have been a customer of PNC banking services for the past 5 years. I started my account in college where PNC basically has a monopoly over PSU. Your college ID can be linked to your checking account by only through PNC, and the only ATMS available on campus are PNC. That being said, I was satisfied for the most part with their service until the last year. (2008-2009). Consumers please beware of PNC's new policy regarding insufficient funds. They now will charge you insufficient funds fees, for going into the negative in both your pending and posted ledgers. For instance, if you over drew your account by a mere 1 dollar but the transaction had not yet posted, they will charge you 34. If you do not put the sufficient funds in by 10 pm that day, considering it must be a cash deposit on a business day. Your account will then be charged another 34 dollars, for the posted transaction. Therefore totalling in 69 dollars for insufficient fees as if 34 was not bad enough. Recently, this had happened to me. I called the bank, acknowledging my error, but questioning why I had been charged twice for one error. My customer service representative, Bill, had asked me on numerous occasions if, "I knew how to add and subtract". I had my ledger out, and explain everything to him. I also referenced my Internet banking ledger, which both showed that I made one error to result in one fee. Bill finally said he would remove the fees, and then sent me bank ledgers, with a note attached to use them! I should have closed the account then and there, but foolishly I did not. More recently, I had my account bounced by a PNC ATM Fee, which I was unaware of. Again I will acknowledge my error. My account was then -.68. Yes 68 cents. This was over memorial day weekend. For that negative 68 cents, PNC charged me -131.99. When I called to dispute this, they said I had used all my courtesy refunds, in my last dispute with them and they would do nothing for me. I then went to a PNC branch, where I spoke to a customer service representativ
“RUN! - and take your deposit with you”
My wife and I recently decided to open a joint account. The institutions we were at either went under or got acquired by a larger bank. We decided on PNC and opened a joint checking account and a joint of credit line (which we were approved for). My first call with customer service was bad - the representative was rude and condescending. He made us feel stupid because we didn't know the answers to our questions (evidently, you have to activate your check card before you can register your account online. This is not mentioned anywhere). The guy was a jerk but I chalked it up to a one time thing.
I get the check card, activate it and try to get to online banking. I was locked out, so called to get unlocked. I answered all of the representatives questions but was unable to come up with the cent amount for my deposit. I gave her the dollar amount, date of the transaction and the branch, but she would not unlock my profile- she insisted on getting the cent amount. Five minutes later, I called again and another rep unlocked the account with only the dollar amount.
I was furious, I canceled the credit card and tried to close the checking account. I explained the bad customer service I received as the reason for closing the accounts and then, they still want to charge me a $25 dollar account cancellation. DO NOT BANK WITH PNC - it is a horrible institution that was no regard for their customers.
