“US Bank: 5 Star Service? I think not...”
I highly recommend that people stay away from US Bank. Their tellers, bankers, and drive thru tellers are all very rude. They all seem to hate their jobs as no one is ever outwardly polite or inviting. I closed my account with them two years ago but my girlfriend has been with them for 3 years and is now going to close hers. They just charged her $70.00 in overdraft fees. They keep transactions and information hidden on their online banking so that they can charge you backdoor overdraft fees for excessive amounts of money.
I was charged over $250 in overdraft fees on my account when I was with them because I simply tried to use my card to pay for gas and it was denied as credit and as debit. NO MONEY CAME OUT OF MY ACCOUNT BECAUSE I WAS DENIED AND I WAS CHARGED OVERDRAFT FEES? This was at a time period in my life when I was forced to live paycheck to paycheck while I was going through the application process for my current career. They did return these fees after having to talk to two different (and very rude) bankers who the manager admitted had not been very well trained.
I personally had to go in and complain about a drive thru teller who is always very rude to us. This drive through teller does not greet you when you pull up and if you don't have a deposit slip filled out in advance she rudely shoves one at you and tells you that next time "this needs to be filled out."
The teller that was employed prior to her never once asked us for a deposit slip. Only a debit card so he could pull up account information and he was still twice as fast as this new woman who seems to hate her life and her job but enjoys taking it out on everyone else.
They have excuses for everything also. When we asked for a return of the $70 in overdraft fees they kept telling us we had to click on account balances which are listed as all positives until the overdraft fees. When you click on the balances it then shows you your balance less any fees or pending purchases. Why in the hell doesn't it say to do that on
“changing transaction order”
Went to us bank with a concern that I received my checks, but they never charged me for bank printing charges, and I was concerned because I didnt want them putting through on a day like close to payday. The manager told me not to worry the bank cant put you with overdraft charges with a bank charge. 2 days later that is exactly what happened, 280 in overdraft charges, i checked online or called us bank for the next 6 small between 1.24 and 11.00 to make sure I had enough money, I was covered. Then mysteriously the bank printing charge came through for 44.50, but at the top, to make the chapstick, 1.24, the coffee 1.69, the parking 5.00, the cvs 11.00, etc to be in overdaraft at 35.00 a pop. Will need to get my paycheck put somewhere else. Cant afford to bank anymore!!!!!!!
“Avoid US Bank - Many Hidden Fees”
I chose to close my US Bank HSA account because of the frequent and money draining fees and poor customer service. The agent helping to close my account was strikingly ok with my choice to close the account, and I did not understand why until months later when I was slapped with a $34.94 fee to close the account. Not only was I completely unaware of this fee (I guess I should have been since I already knew there was a fee for everything else), but this fee was sent to be collected by the recovery department which has the option of sending this fee to a collection agency. Talk about a slap in the face.
To compound the situation even more upon receiving the letter that my account was overdrawn and I had to pay this remaining fee (months after the account was closed with a $0 balance), I of course attempted to call and reconcile what I thought was an error. US Bank must be scamming so many customers with their fees that their recovery department cannot even handle it. It took me two days and probably well over an hour of my time at work to get through and understand what this was all about. This process was so frustrating that I am so glad to know that I am very close to no longer having any interactions with US Bank whatsoever.
If you want to make your customers feel like dirt, combine poor to mediocre customer service with fees around every corner. Add to this formula an overwhelmed recovery department (read too many fees) that treats a person like a number and simply processes you in order to get their money. The result is a customer who will never use US Bank for any reason again for the rest of my life.
“Enough to cover all charges but one, but charged 10 OD fees, & they hold cashiers checks”
First issue:
Well, I understand that I made a mistake and had a check that I didn't have enough to cover. So be it, I will pay the $35. But since I used my debit card 9 times that day (several charges were less than $5- one was for $1.10) I was charged $350. I had enough money to cover the 9 charges and then some, but because they put the largest charge first, I was charged 10 times. They would only refund half. I am shopping for another bank, but this seems to be the latest scam practiced by all of them in my area (except for Banner Bank, which I love but since I have moved is no longer convenient for me).
Second issue:
I discovered that I was lower on funds than I had thought, so I went to my other bank and took out more than enough to cover the deficiency. I took it out as a cashier's check to be sure it would be available at US Bank immediately. Wrong! I deposited it on Saturday, and it wasn't available until Tuesday. This resulted in 9 OD charges, (because of the aforementioned creative system of debiting). However one of these OD charges cannot be explained by any charge that I made. Did they refund it? No! They don't care!
“I've had issues”
absolutely the worst customer service I have ever seen. They charge for everything, despite being a long time customer. They juggle your debits to be able to charge you enormous overdraft fees. I recommend anyone to stay clear of this bank. I personally know 8 others who have also had very bad expereinces with US Bank, and closed their accounts.
“I've had issues”
I've enjoyed an interest rate of 5.99 % for the last 2 years, haven't had to use the
Credit Card a lot . I've canceled some other Credit Cards because of the interest
rates rising upto 19 %. In 2009 I began to use the card more and have a balance of
$2500 and a credit limit of $9500. In about March or April of 2009 I was sent a letter
from US Bank stating they would be raising my interest rate , no amount was given, I
called US Bank and asked why? They said that I had too many Credit Cards, I explained
that whatever Cards that I currently had Balances on , I was Paying. For about one
month , my Credit Card was restrected from me using. I began using the US Bank Card
in about November 2009.I received my statement for January 2010 and the interest
rate was raised to 27.24%. I don't mind spending money after all , thats why I work,
but to have my rates raised like this in Pure Greed.Shame on US Bank!
“Nightmare Bank”
I strongly recommend that you steer clear of US Bank. I wish I would have. I have never experienced worse customer service. After opening a checking account at US Bank, where my first deposit was more than $5000.00, the banker told me the computers were down and he would just mail me the deposit slip. Thank God it never occurred to me to take him up on the offer because the service and reliability of the bank plummeted from there. For example, I was told it would take two weeks to receive my debit card. After two weeks and repeated phone calls I was informed that the banker who opened my account neglected to order it. I was assured that I would receive it within the week - I didn't.
Predictably, US Bank made closing my account there as inconvenient as possible and I had to contact them repeatedly to ensure the account was closed and that the debit card they told me finally arrived at the bank was destroyed. US Bank employees seem so disgruntled and seem to have no regard for the delivery of even adequate customer service. I am so glad I took my businesss elsewhere.
In inquiring about alternative banking options I learned that US Bank is notorious for poor customer service. I also read US Bank had to take billions in bailout money, more than almost any other bank, to survive its mismanagement. I wish I had done a better job researching my banking options before opening an account.
I have since gone to credit union and I am highly satisfied with the customer service.
“This bank screwed up so badly and cashed a 3500 check against my account”
US Bank is horrible. I have banked with them for a few years now and have always complained about their excessive fees. They charge $37.50 for an overdraft or returned item check and reshuffle your debits to try to get as many fees in as possible. They also charge $8.00 per day for each day if you are overdrawn. This includes when you have money in your account but they consider it unavailable. This is bad however, this latest incident takes the cake. I deposited money on Friday and should have had around 800 available on Saturday. So, i was so surprised to see that on Saturday I was negative $2800. Of course, I looked up my account to see that they had processed a check for more than $3500 that was not mine. It did not have my name on it anywhere. I called the customer service line and was told that this was fraud and they were closing my account, I needed to go to the bank and sign an affadavit, etc. I told them look at the check, the bank made an error. It was not fraud. After being kept on hold forever I was told that yes they made a mistake and all fees would of course be taken care of. However the department that handles these problems was closed and my money would not be available until Tuesday. Even after I spoke with a supervisor I was told the same thing. My money is being held hostage. To their credit, when I actually went to my branch I was advanced a few hundred in cash. What kind of bank does this? and why would they pay a check for more than 3 thousand when only 800 hundred was available? This bank has horrible customer service.
“Next to impossible to get anything from this bank”
I have been banking with this bank for over 15 years and I have never been able to get a loan from them. I don't have perfect credit, but it isnt bad. I recently attempted obtain a loan from this institution for a car, and was of course declined. The interesting thing about it is, the amount of available money in my saving acct was almost double the amount of the loan I was applying for, and had been for over a year!! I will be changing bank when I return, will be happy to see the looks on their faces when I ask for my very large check as I am closing out my accts. They certainly do not value their customers.
“can't handle a simple re finance”
This is the first bank that has ever required me to get my own pay off demand statement from previous lender and send them the check myself for a refi of a home equity loan. They told me they had paid off the previous loan, but the previous loan was never closed. I was paying interest on two loans at the same time.
