“Canadian Version ”
It was great to see the RBC or the Royal Bank of Canada included on mybanktracker.com. As a Canadian I can't speak to the "quality" of the US affiliate but I can certainly give them a 4 star rating as a satisfied customer with over 30 years experience in Canada. Rates are competitive, fees are negotiable, their branch staff offer excellent customer service and the banks customer loyalty program means they will match and or beat any competitive offer from any of the other major institutions. Only reason I won’t give them 5 out 5 stars is that they do not offer evening banking hours with a few exceptions and “most” branches are closed on the weekend in Canada.
“before you bank with the Royal Bank”
I want to tell everyone out there who is thinking of getting a mortgage with the Royal Bank of Canada. I had a 5 year mortgage with them, however, I decided to sell my home and had to break the mortgage. Yes I expected a penalty, but did not expect an $11,000 penalty. When I contacted the RBC headoffice they said there was nothing I could do. I then contacted the CIBC and spoke with a mortgage advisor and they said every bank has the ability to work with their exisiting customers. In light of what had occured not only have they permanently lost my business, they also lost four other clients who were about to renew with the RBC, but when found out what had happened between me and the RBC they all declined to renew with them. The expression "word of mouth" has become a frightening reality for the RBC.
“I've had issues”
I totally agree with Indy's word by word, this has happened for us and can happen to anyone, think twice+, take a moment check with other banks before signing anything with this bank. If this problem is not solved I am done with this bank.
