Some states, like New York, have really high property tax rates, others have very high sales tax rates, or excise taxes on alcohol and cigarettes. States with a lot of tourism frequently shift much of the tax burden to visitors by means of hotel and sales taxes. If you are considering relocation, these are all important things to consider.
