About Citi Simplicity® Card
- 0% Intro APR on Balance Transfers and Purchases for 18 months. After that, the variable APR will be 12.99% - 21.99% based on your creditworthiness
Acknowledging that consumers can lead hectic lives, Citi Simplicity boasts card terms that are highly forgiving of mistakes when it comes to responsible credit-card usage. It doesn’t slap you with fees for making a late payment or spending more than your credit line. Furthermore, Citi will not raise your interest rate for slipping up.
With those lenient terms as the key selling points of the card, Citi Simplicity does not delve into the crowded space of rewards and cash back. Despite the lack of rewards, it doesn’t fall under the category of a “low-interest” credit card neither.
Ideally, Citi Simplicity is found in the wallets of consumers who prefer a minimalistic, worry-free credit card. Anyone who is able to keep a close eye on their credit-card accounts may be better off with a card that hands out rewards or cash back.
Pros Cons Great fee structure Potential for a high APR Direct access to live customer service
In line with its fee-friendly policy, the Citi Simplicity card does not have an annual fee, which is expected from a credit card that does not tout extravagant perks.
The main attraction of the Citi Simplicity card is its fee structure. With this card, there are no fees when you make a late payment or go over your credit limit. Most other credit cards charge roughly $35 when you don’t make a payment on time or spend more than what is available on your credit line.
And, when you miss a payment or exceed the credit limit, most card issuers will hike your interest rate to 29.99% APR -- the Citi Simplicity card does not do this.
The only fees that apply to the Citi Simplicity card are fees for balance transfers, cash advances, foreign transaction and returned payments.
Despite the lenient fee structure, the Citi Simplicity card does not have low interest rates, as you might have expected. With a variable regular APR ranging from 12.99% to 21.99%, the interest rate is similar to that of many rewards and cash back credit cards.
Although many penalty fees don’t apply for Citi Simplicity, it would be unwise to carry a balance on it.
The Citi Simplicity adopts a no-frills model, so there aren’t any fancy rewards programs.
However, the Citi Simplicity card gets much of the basic perks that are available from most other Citi cards including price protection, purchase protections, extended warranty, travel & emergency assistance, trip cancellation/interruption coverage and lost luggage insurance.
The card also offers direct access to customer service, no telephone maze involved to speak with a human being. That may come in handy if a problem ever arises.
Citi offer mobile applications on various mobile platforms to make it easy for cardmembers to manage their accounts. Through its website, cardmembers also have access to neat features such as one-time account numbers (to minimize fraud) and online credit-line-increase requests.
Usually, the Citi Simplicity card often comes with decent introductory offers that include 0% APR on purchases and balance transfers for extended periods of time.
