There are a number of consumer protection laws in place to prevent financial institutions from taking advantage of consumers, but people are still paying for fees they might not even be aware of. You may discover hidden or deceptive charges on bills and fees with your bank accounts, credit cards, mortgages, and memberships or subscription programs.
