Christmas Eve marks the day before Christmas, which means you have less than 24 hours until you get to open your presents! Although it is a day that is widely celebrated by many people all over the world, it is not recognized as a federal holiday in the U.S., therefore, all the banks will stay open on Christmas Eve — but not for the entire day.
In fact, numerous workplaces and businesses, including banks, will observe it as a partial holiday, as they will be closing their doors earlier than their usual weekday hours. Many banks will be closing in the afternoon time mostly around 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M.
So you may want to consider making a trip to the bank early on this day if you have any financial transactions to conduct, especially the ones that will require the help of a banker or a teller.
Contrary to the holiday bank hours, some retailers are likely to be open for longer hours in the final stretch to Christmas. As it is the last day you can finish holiday shopping for gifts for your loved ones before Christmas morning, you should make sure to not run out of cash on this critical day.
Remember, if you need to get cash after hours, you can rest assured that ATMs will remain accessible any day of the week, even through the holidays. You also have the option to conduct your banking through online and mobile channels.
Here is the holiday schedule for Christmas Eve at the 13 largest U.S. banks:
