Although BB&T Corp. just finished slashing 365 jobs after their acquisition of BankAtlantic, they are creating 1,700 more jobs over five years in a large back-office operation near Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, N.C, according to the Associated Press. The bank said Tuesday it has signed a seven-year sublease to take over a former American Express Co. call center in Greensboro.
It hopes to eventually fill the Triad Corporate Center with up to 2,500 employees, mostly working in back office, administrative and support functions. The company says it will begin moving into the new location by year’s end with up to 100 employees. The layoffs were slated for Oct. 1, but it’s unclear whether those who were laid off will be offered jobs in Greensboro. BankAtlantic was centered in southern Florida.
