Ah, Bank of America. You never let us down. Whenever we feel the urge to write about the outrageous behavior of the banking industry, you always come through.
But today … today, we have to admit you’ve truly outdone yourself.
You fired a handicapped man because he walked too slowly! He was in a car accident and wound up disabled in his right arm, hand and leg. And you fired him because he took too long when he limped back to his desk from the lunch room. We’re just amazed! If there was an award to give for this sort of thing, we’d give it you. (Most Egregious Act of Unkindness? Bank Most Likely to Behave in a Satanic Fashion? Something like that?)
But here’s where you really won us over — one of this guy’s coworkers allegedly told hm that making accommodations for his disability “wouldn’t be fair to people with two hands.” That’s just so perfect. If there’s one thing that infuriates us it’s how we able-bodied folks are required to use two hands when we type! Why doesn’t the government do something about that instead of passing all these my-brother’s-keeper laws like the Americans with Disabilities Act!
At any rate, we just want to say thanks. Here we were thinking we’d have to spend a minute or two searching the Web for evidence of a bank behaving badly … but you guys are everywhere this morning. The whole world is watching the video report that ABC aired the other day.
