Starbucks to Sell Square Card Reader At 7,000 Locations

Updated on Thu Jan 3, 2013

Starbucks announced that it will be selling Square card readers across more than 7,000 of its locations in the U.S. for $10 each. The deal includes an offer to give customers $10 back if they’re first-time users.

Square has been the only credit and debit card processor for Starbucks and the coffee giant has invested $25 million in the start-up in the past. Starbucks also accepts payments from Square’s mobile wallet app Square Wallet.

With the mobile card reader, almost anyone can become a merchant — at the price of a 2.75% fee per card swipe.
