Western Union, whose global money-transfer system serves the un- and underbanked from 510,000 agent locations, is adding low-end retailers to its sales force.
The company announced a deal yesterday to sell prepaid cards at 7,400 Family Dollar stores across the United States.
Both the Western Union Gold Card MasterCard and the Western Union Telemundo MasterCard will be available at the retailer, according to a press release.
“Western Union’s prepaid cards align with Family Dollar’s strategy of providing customers with great value and convenience,” said Paul White, Family Dollar’s Executive Vice President and Chief Merchandising Officer. “We believe that the cards will appeal to our current customers, as well as attract new customers to our stores.”
The move comes just a few months after Western Union signed a comparable deal with Dollar General stores.
