Online banking is a joke.

If all you need is a place to put money so you can write checks, all for free, this might be the bank for you.

When starting a business we signed up with Compass first because of the "free checks for life" kind of offers. We asked about Quickbooks integration and were told they offer that and everything seemed good. So we signed up and away we went.
We got home to discover they don't offer online features for business checking accounts (not new ones anyway). We were e-mailed a passcode to login online, and their web interface is an absolute joke. Confusing, ugly, unmanageable... did I mention ugly?

Not only that, but to login to our business checking required 3 clicks on their web page just to get to the login screen, where you have to remember your "company id" (which is a random number assigned to you) and your login id... which will then take you to your image verification and password screen. Everytime I wanted to login to my account I had to go look-up my "company id" because it was impossible to memorize. Ridiculous.

We couldn't even hook our account up with mint.com. And it was only because of the particular type of account they signed us up with.

Top notch online banking.

Their online banking features are one of the top 2 that I've had experience with and researched. When starting a new business, we switched from a "free checking" bank to Wells Fargo just because of the ease of use online and integration options with software.

Their fees are manageable and they will actually try to situate your accounts in such a way as to reduce fees. (Such as if you get a checking and savings account with a merchant account, then two of the accounts are free; etc) Whether that's a marketing gimmick or if they're really trying to help you out is up for grabs from my perspective.
