About the Bank
Los Angeles-based City National Bank is a community bank with a coast-to-coast reach. Though on the smaller side, the bank has full-service banking centers in Southern California, the Bay Area, New York City, Nashville, Minneapolis, Atlanta and Washington, D.C. Banking services include personal banking, as well as small business and corporate banking and wealth management.
Personal banking products center around checking accounts, savings accounts, credit cards, mortgage loans, personal loans and lines of credit. In terms of variety, City National Bank offers four checking account options, as well as a half dozen deposit accounts for savers.
Personal Checking is City National Bank’s simple, convenient checking account, with unlimited transactions and no monthly maintenance fee when you maintain a $3,000 average daily balance. Personal Checking Plus carriers a higher monthly fee and minimum balance requirement to waive the fee, but City National Bank charges no fees for non-CNB ATM transactions and offers up to 3 foreign ATM surcharge reimbursements per statement cycle. Premium Checking increases that to unlimited foreign ATM fee rebates. This account also offers interest on deposits but you’ll need a minimum daily balance of $50,000 to avoid the monthly maintenance fee.
As mentioned, you have six ways to save with City National Bank, starting with City National Green Savings, which is available exclusively online. This account offers competitive rates when you also open a CNB checking account and up to $20 in foreign ATM fees waived each statement cycle. There’s no maintenance fee for the account when you sign up for City National online banking access.
Personal Savings is a more traditional savings account, with a low minimum opening deposit of just $50. This account pays interest on deposits, but at a lower rate compared to Personal Money Market and Ladder Personal Money Market Accounts. Those accounts offer tiered rates, based on what save. You also have debit card access with these accounts. Rounding things out on the savings side are CD accounts and IRA CDs for retirement savers. Terms range from seven days to five years, with interest rates tiered according to term length.
City National Bank has four credit cards to choose from, all of which offer some type of rewards. The Visa Platinum Card with City National Rewards is designed for spenders who want to earn the same rewards rate on every purchase with no annual fee. The Crystal Visa Infinite Card with City National Rewards is a premium rewards card that offers tiered rewards on travel and everyday spending. There’s also a Cash Back Visa Signature card if you’d rather earn cash on purchases instead of points.
Both online and mobile banking services are available, so you can manage your money when and how you like. In terms of features, the mobile app allows you to do more with your accounts than mobile web access, including checking your credit card accounts and depositing checks. FASTdeposit has an extremely generous mobile check deposit limit of $25,000 per day, which is much higher than what you’ll find at some banks.
