About the Bank

East West Bank is a Pasadena, California-based financial institution that operates over 130 locations around the world. In the U.S., East West Bank offers branch banking in California, Georgia, Massachusetts, Nevada, New York, Texas and Washington. The bank also has full service branches across Greater China and it’s one of the largest independent banks headquartered in California.

Banking services offered by East West Bank fall under five umbrellas: personal, small and mid-sized business, commercial, international and wealth management. Personal banking covers all of the products you need to manage your day to day financial life, including checking accounts, savings accounts, CDs, credit cards, mortgage loans and home equity loans. Checking accounts emphasize convenience, with options tailored to different lifestyles and needs.

Value Checking offers unlimited check writing with a low minimum opening balance of $100. Premier Checking comes with those same benefits, along with the added perk of earning interest on your balance. Both accounts have a monthly maintenance fee but this can be easily waived by meeting a minimum balance requirement. With either account, you pay no ATM surcharge at East West Bank ATMs, Allpoint ATMs and MoneyPass ATMs. East West Bank doesn’t charge a withdrawal fee for the first two ATM withdrawals made at another bank’s machine each statement cycle.

The Premier Maximizer Money Market account offers limited check writing abilities but you can earn a more competitive rate on your balances. This account is designed for people who have $10,000 or more to open an account, although the minimum balance required to avoid the monthly service fee is lower. Community Checking accounts are low-fee accounts for people who may not qualify for another East West Banking checking option. In addition to these accounts, East West Bank offers checking accounts designed for seniors and students. Specialized savings accounts are also available for these two groups.

If you’re not under age 18 or age 62 or older, you can open a Premier Savings account. This account has a low opening balance requirement and a low monthly maintenance fee. ATM access is included when you link your savings account to an East West Bank personal checking account. If you don’t think you’ll need your savings right away, you can opt for a CD instead, with a term ranging from 32 days to five years. There’s no monthly maintenance fee for CD accounts but the minimum to open a CD is slightly higher, at $1,000 versus $100 for a Premier Savings account. Remember, a penalty applies for withdrawing CD funds before maturity.

East West Bank offers a full suite of digital banking services, including online and mobile access. Both allow you to handle your most important banking activities, including scheduling bill payments, making transfers and sending or receiving money through Popmoney. Mobile banking also offers mobile check deposit and QuickBalance, so you can check your balance at a glance without having to fully log in. If you have questions about your account, customer service is available Monday through Saturday.
