About the Bank

Hancock Bank and Whitney Bank are part of Gulfport, Mississippi-based Hancock Holding Company. In Mississippi, Florida and Alabama, customers are served by Hancock Bank, while Whitney Bank meets the banking needs of customers in Texas and Louisiana. Altogether, Hancock and Whitney have more than 200 branches that offer personal, small business, commercial and wealth management banking services.

Personal banking products and services cover the full scope of financial needs, including checking and savings accounts, credit cards, home loans and investment services. Hancock and Whitney's small business and commercial banking line features some of those same products, along with banking solutions tailored to small, medium and larger businesses.

There are three personal checking tiers: Access Checking, Connect Checking and Priority Checking. Access Checking comes with the most essential features you need to manage your money, including bill pay, mobile check deposit and direct deposit. There is a monthly service fee for this account but it's relatively easy to avoid by meeting the minimum balance requirement or scheduling a recurring direct deposit. The fee is also waived if you're under 24 or over 64.

Connect Checking offers those same features, along with some added security benefits, including identity and credit monitoring, identity fraud recovery services and easy replacement if your debit card is lost or stolen. You also get free basic checks, no-fee domestic travelers checks and up to five fee-free money orders or cashier's checks per month. Priority Checking comes with these same perks, as well as free wire transfers, higher Visa debit card daily spending limits, ATM fee refunds at all U.S. and international ATMs, automatic cash sweeps for simpler savings into a linked Relationship Rewards Money Market account and premium interest rates when you keep a higher balance in your checking account. This account has the highest monthly fee of the three and it's geared towards banking customers who maintain a $10,000 minimum daily balance.

For savers, there are six ways to earn interest on money you're setting aside for short or long-term goals. The Silver Savings account is Hancock and Whitney's standard savings account. This account has a low monthly maintenance fee and no minimum balance requirement. You can open an account with $100 or more. The regular Money Market account does have a minimum balance requirement but it offers a higher rate for savers. The Relationship Rewards Money Market account may be a good choice if you have $10,000 or more to save. To get premium rates for this account, you'll also need a Hancock or Whitney Bank checking account.

CDs are also available, with terms ranging from seven days to seven years. All CDs require an initial deposit of $1,000 or more. You can open an IRA CD to add to your retirement savings. Regular traditional and Roth IRA accounts are also an option. Unlike CDs, these IRAs do have a monthly service fee if your account balance drops below a certain limit, so you'll need to be aware of that if you're fee-conscious. Finally, you can save for holiday shopping in a Hancock or Whitney Bank Christmas Club account. These accounts can be opened with just $5 and your savings is automatically transferred to checking each November.

The only reason I am writing a review is because I saw a D rating for Hancock. I was with another bank when I first moved to town two years ago, and their online security was less than stellar. Hancock offers good security on the web plus you can add Trusteer, an additional layer of security, if you would like a deeper security measure. Trusteer will transfer to other sites to help protect you further if you'd like.

I don't understand why there would be a D rating. The employees are friendly and always helpful. Don the VP or Executive VP is the face of the branch, and he is highly intelligent and extremely helpful. He remembers names and makes sure to say hi any time he is visible and that is often.

I have had an average of 3 business accounts at this bank and I am displeased with the lack of customer service and a cavalier attitude toward my needs as a business founder and CEO. I am denied read only access to my accounts and told I do not have access. Spoke to the Assistant Mgr. and got n o-where. I plan to move my account to Sun Coast where my need for information is welcome.
