About the Bank

TCF Bank is a national bank holding company based in Wayzata, Minnesota. The bank has a broad reach, with 320 retail and commercial banking branches located in Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan, Arizona, Colorado, South Dakota and Wisconsin. TCF Bank's subsidiaries also offer commercial leasing and equipment financing in all 50 states.

TCF's personal banking products and services are designed for people who need convenient money management options that fit their busy lives. TCF Free Checking is a simple checking account with no monthly maintenance fee when you enroll in online statements. You can link a Free Savings account to your checking, with no monthly maintenance fee and no minimum balance requirement. Both can be opened with just $25 and both come with free digital banking access. You get a single debit card that you can use to access your checking and savings accounts at TCF Bank ATMs. You can also link your Free Savings account to Free Checking for overdraft protection.

TCF Premier Checking is an upgraded checking account that allows you to earn interest on your balance. This account comes with free checks and free money orders, free withdrawals at TCF ATMs and two fee waivers for non-TCF Bank ATM withdrawals each statement cycle. You can pair a Premier Checking account with TCF Power Savings or TCF Elite Savings. Power Savings offers a competitive interest rate with the monthly fee waived when you maintain a $100 minimum balance. Elite Savings features tiered interest rates for maximum savings growth. You will, however, need to maintain a higher minimum balance with this account to avoid the monthly maintenance fee.

If you'd like to combine savings with checking account features, you could also open TCF Power Money Market account. This account takes $50 to open and you'll need a $1,500 minimum balance to sidestep the service fee. You can use your debit card to make purchases directly from your money market account and you have the option to write checks as well. Of course, if you want to set your savings and forget it for the short or long term, you could open a CD account instead. TCF offers CDs with terms ranging from three months to 10 years. You'll need $500 to open a CD account. An IRA CD is also available if you're looking for a way to save for retirement.

You can borrow with TCF if you need a home loan, home equity loan or personal loan. Credit cards are also available if you want to earn rewards when you spend, enjoy a low APR on purchases or build credit for the first time. All of your TCF Bank accounts can be managed through digital banking, which covers you online and on the go from your mobile device. You can handle everyday banking tasks, including bill payments, check deposits and transfers, while also tracking your spending and planning your budget in one convenient place. TCF online banking is abysmal

I have only been an account holder at TCF Bank for 30 days, but in that time it is obvious their internet banking system needs a complete overhaul.

The employees are cordial and professional and the offices are clean and nicely appointed.

In the 30 days my account has been opened the online services of TCF Bank have been off-line several times making it impossible to access my account. I cannot check balances or make deposits.

The most recent problem was when automatic payments were not being processed. This causes a multitude of issues.

I may change my opinion of TCF Bank, but their online banking services need to improve drastically.

TCF is the best. Check online for your balance every day. You should check if you made a mistake or if someone hacked your account daily. If you made a mistake and it happens TCF lets you deposit cash same day to avoid fees. This branch in particular has been more than helpful to me when an Amazon purchase went wrong during Christmas time. These one star reviews are not fair. Other banks dont care if you deposit overdrafts the same day and make you pay maybe almost $100.00 for being short less than a dollar.TCF is awesome. No plans on leaving. Theyve made practically no money off me but I hope if need be theyll approve me for a loan or mortgage if need be.

Horrible Marketing Ads & Digital Banking Format, Scammy as heck!

I've been a customer at TCF bank for over 20 years. I can't stand banking with TCF any longer. The new "digital banking" format is clunky, overwhelming to look at, and not helpful to the "average checking account" customer. TCF checking account holders were forced to sign up for the digital banking, otherwise we could not access any account info online. In addition, I'm now locked out of my account, and have everything reset (by TCF) and apply again for their crappy "digital banking" online format just to use online banking. The digital banking should be an option to the customer, I don't need it nor do I want to use it, I'd rather use the regular format. Also, I was charged a $2.00 per mo. fee for a paper statement ..... wth?
I never asked for a paper statement, and haven't had one mailed to me for over 5 years. If you are a customer beware of this monthly charge. I had TCF branch manager remove this off my statement & had the $2.00 refunded back into my account.

A $10.00 per mo. maintenance fee is charged to those who have the (age) 50+ checking acct which is now the 60+ checking account. You can get out of paying this monthly fee when you make over 15 transactions with your checking account. This can be: withdraws from the account, checks cashed from your account, ATM withdraws, credit/debit card purchases ....... You have to make 15 of more of these transaction or TCF will get charge that monthly fee.

Beware of pending transactions that can disappear from your account overnight, weekends & holidays. If you forget about a pending transaction(s) and use an ATM for withdraws and/or make a purchase(s) with your debit/credit card you can end up being overdrawn. TCF has a way of making transactions disappear and reappear within days. I've been told it's a "maintenance glitch" in their system ..... Yeah right & whatever ...... It's really a sneaky way to add overdraft fees to your account.

Commercial ads: The latest: Hot Dog Water - This commercial is so inappropriate on many levels that comments have been disabled on Youtube. Storms Coming: is just plain stupid, and stereotypes females & elderly persons. Let's not forget TCF's huge faux pas using the "99 Luftballons" song in their 2016 commercial, about a family buying 99 red balloons for a grandmother's birthday party. Whom ever approves these TCF promos for commercials needs to be fired asap!

TCF will lose me as a customer as of next month!

Worst bank ever-pulling ALL of my money out

I look at my account at 6 am. Overdrawn. Ok, no big deal. Put money in from savings. They proceed to charge me $37 overdraft fee. So, I call to see what can be done about. They "customer service rep" and I use that term very loosely, proceeds to tell me that nothing can be done because that fee processed at midnight. Are you up at midnight to check you balance? I mean, really. I proceed to tell her I placed money in there first thing this morning. She then tells me I should have a running check register. Wtf is this...1985? This is why I have a mobile app, lady. I told her I'm taking my money out and they only response from this ditz was "uh...ok" yea, ok. I'm gone. This place prefers to keep $37 instead of customers. See ya, TCF. Worst bank in existence.

Just this weekend I noticed that I had spent a little to much money, so I transferred $300 from saving right into checking, this piece of crap bank pended the transaction, and then charged me $37 for four overdrafts. A day later the transfer is still pending, I assume the bank is hoping I have more transactions coming thru.....and they would be correct, for about $100.00 which they took from me in overdrafts....

They are crooks.... keep your money in a sock drawer.....do not bank here!

I reported Mrs. Samantha Sanchez to the Maplewood TCF branch supervisors and the Region Manager for TCF. They did a two month investigation and believed the lies Mrs. Sanchez told them. I have had $2000 stolen from my Savings Account by Mrs. Samantha Sanchez, I have reported her to the TCF management and they say that they have no record of money being stolen from my Savings Account. I have documented TCF Account paperwork that says money was removed from my Savings Account by Mrs. Samantha Sanchez without my permission. The TCF management has dismissed my report and stopped the investigation because they believe that Mrs. Samantha Sanchez has not done anything wrong. I have closed both of my TCF Accounts and withdrew the last of my money. Don’t waste your time trying to bank any of your finances at any of the TCF Bank's branches. TCF Bank should be shut down and they should return all of the money that customers have in the TCF Bank accounts.

I set up a cd in 2002, probably renewed it about 5 times. Then tried to close it
out in july 2012. Had a horrible time getting the branch to send me the funds. After getting them a notarized letter 3 days after the cd matured, i was told by
teller kevin green that my letter arrived at the wrong time, that i would be incurring a
penalty for withdrawing the funds, that the letter was locked up my some bank
officer who got sick -- causing several days delay, then finally after they cut the check it had to go through the regional office center, all of which took 3 weeks to get the funds sent to me. Branch manager christopher parker could never be reached, wouldn't return my phone calls, and i could only get to him indirectly via calling tcf general customer service. He said he would make it right the one time i did get through to him, then i could never get through to him again, and never got any extra interest or any satisfaction. This after being a customer for 10 years. Terrible bank. Also tried to get regional manager involved and never got any reply. I live out of state now so going to the branch to argue with them was not an option. Just terrible, awful treatment from this bank. Avoid tcf bank for your piece of mind.

Eventually I was able to leave TCF and was never so glad to "dump" a company. Several acquaintances have the same view. I have never come across a decent opinion of this banking system As a public service to others who may be reading this DO NOT do business with TCF.

    Terrible Customer Service :(

Very sad how TCF treated me. I've been a customer for 15 years and money was taken out of my account without my authorization. 3 charges in total all for the same amount. These charges caused multiple overdrafts. Between the overdraft fees and the stolen money I'm out about 500+ dollars. I contacted TCF and opened a claim (1st claim in 15 years). I was told it could take 5 - 10 days. I waited 8 business days and called. I was told that my case was closed and they did not find in my favor (I was never provided with any notice of this). If I wanted to appeal the case I needed to provide TCF with more information. Not sure how I could do so as I did not make these charges. Cole (CSR with an attitude) told me that seeing as there were multiple charges to this company it looks like something I "must" have set up. I explained I did not know who or what this company is or what they sell. I also explained that I know many other banks & credit unions look out for the best interest of their customers and I am not sure why TCF is making this so difficult. Cole of TCF stated that Wells Fargo & Bank or America follow the same business practices as TCF in this situation. Ummmm, I had just stated that I was not happy with TCF and their customer service. Throwing other financial institutions under the bus??? Nice job Cole, real professional. I hope someone from Wells Fargo and/or Bank of America sees this and contact's TCF in regards to Cole's statements about them. (I have never banked with either institution so I can not confirm or deny) I may just stay away from those two institutions, just incase Cole is correct about their customer service and business practice. Anyway, in the end I was told that I could fax an appeal request letter and provide TCF with more information (still confused about what I could provide them with other than a google search and a statement that I did NOT authorize payments to any of the companies on the list, which I did) and they may decide to take a second look at my request. Really disappointed with TCF. I am keep my hopes up that I am not out $500 between the fraudulent charges and the resulting overdraft fees. I really hate changes my bank and thought if I was a loyal customer to TCF, then they would look out for me as the customer. In the market for a new bank. Bye TCF...it's not me, it's without a doubt you and your lack of customer service. Also, I think very low of any company that trashes a competitor to prove a point. (Cole, I'm sure you were taught that in CSR training...I worked for a bank before and I know how we were trained ) On the Brightside of things Cole asked if it would be okay to credit me back 2 of the overdraft fees...I said sure and stated I was surprised he was willing to do so if my claim was denied. Of course Cole, had to follow up with asking me if I "wanted the credit or not?" Oooooh, Cole of TCF...not professional. That's a bit cheeky.
