About the Bank

The Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC for short) is a Toronto, Ontario-based bank that operates globally in the United States, the Caribbean, Europe and Asia. In the U.S., CIBC is headquartered in Chicago, with 46 offices located in 19 states, including California, New York and Texas, as well as the District of Columbia. Personal banking services are available in selected cities, while the remaining offices offer commercial banking services, private wealth management, or a combination of the two.

Personal banking covers checking and savings accounts, Health Savings Accounts, retirement planning, mortgage loans and personal lending, including home equity loans and lines of credit, auto loans, home improvement loans, personal lines of credit and credit builder loans. Personal checking accounts include iCan Checking, myChoice Checking and EasyPath Checking. iCan Checking is designed for the everyday spending and comes with benefits like cash back rewards on debit card purchases and monthly ATM fee refunds. This account has four tiers, with benefits tied to how much money you keep in checking and how often you make deposits or pay bills from your account.

myChoice Checking allows you to earn interest on your balance and similar to the iCan Checking account, this one has multiple benefit tiers. Prestige myChoice Checking members, for example, enjoy up to $50 in foreign ATM fee refunds each month, interest rate bonuses on related deposit accounts and one overdraft and insufficient funds fee refund each statement cycle. There's no monthly maintenance fee at this level but you'll need to maintain a higher balance to enjoy Prestige benefits. Easy MyChoice Checking, on the other hand, allows you to keep less in your account but you'll pay a monthly service fee and you won't get any foreign ATM fee rebates.

If you're looking for savings options, CIBC Savings, CIBC Money Market and CIBC Palladian Savings might fit the bill. The CIBC Savings account is best for savers who want to earn interest with a low minimum balance requirement. Palladian Savings is an online-only account that offers higher rates for savers who maintain a higher balance in their account. The CIBC Money Market account also offers competitive rates, along with check writing privileges and debit card access to your savings. You can make unlimited withdrawals from a money market account at a CIBC banking office or ATM without triggering an excess withdrawal fee.

EasyPath Banking is a special suite of banking products and services for people who want to keep money management simple, without a lot of fees. The EasyPath Access Account is designed to help you avoid overdrafts and overdraft fees and it's check-free, so you don't have to worry about bouncing checks. The EasyPath program also features several borrowing options, including mortgage, personal and home improvement loans.
