If you’re like most people, the idea of doing your taxes sounds about as exciting as going to the dentist. But, with the recent introduction of TurboTax for iPad you’ll finally be offered the convenience of filing your taxes on the go.
TurboTax rolled out a new program called TurboTax for iPad, which is basically an application that allows you to prepare and e-file your taxes on your iPad on- or offline. The new program, which you can download for free at the iTunes store, currently supports TurboTax Deluxe, Premier, and Home & Business. You’ll first need to set up an iTunes account to download the application if you don’t already have one.
As we mentioned earlier, TurboTax for iPad is free, but you’ll still have to pay in order to e-file your taxes, with prices starting at $29.99 for federal returns. The program also supports file sharing through iTunes, which means that you can create your 2010 return in TurboTax for iPad then copy it to your computer if you want to save a return that’s already been e-filed.
The new service is just one of many new innovative products that TurboTax has introduced to keep up with the growing mobile device market. In 2010, the company launched its SnapTax iPhone App, which allows its customers to take a snapshot of their federal tax returns, and have the information automatically filled in with pre-loaded information using optical character recognition (OCR) technology. The company also has an app, called the MyTaxRefund, that allows you to track your e-filed federal tax return to find out when you’ll receive your refund.
