I have been banking with 5/3rd for over 10 years. I have become progressively disenchanted with their customer service (or lack thereof) for some time, but stayed with them out of convenience. With their recent move to an annual fee based checking system (with the balance I keep per month, I have to pay at least $12 each month to be able to still write checks on my account...), they officially lost my patronage. My account will be closed Monday morning. Already set up a checking account elsewhere, just have to stop by and make it official. This company has nickel and dimed me for the last time.
I had a card that they informed me needed to be replaced because through Target stores it had been compromised. The notice never arrived until after they blocked the debit card from all use and they blocked it on the weekend when there is no customer service. After waiting for a well for a card that never showed another was sent on a slow boat. Still access to my funds because although they reopened the card they blocked it again the following weekend again while there is no customer service. They knew I was traveling and needed the card until the first if the month but chose to block it again and deny me access to my money while on the road and basically left me for dead. Because I was justifiably irate they chose to send me a letter like I am kiting or a terrorist and must close my account. The customer service here is so bad they have to show you the door because they cannot help you. My travel was ruined and they could care less.
I have a mortgage with Fifth Third. I arranged to have a payment taken out of my checking acct. Received calls after the payment was taken by some punk named Brandon. A real tuff guy making minimum wage. Did not want to hear a payment had been made. The money had been taken from my acct. I explained to him that he would not talk to me the way he was if was standing across from me. He agreed. The worst bank I have ever done business. I think I will be late next month hoping he will call back.
