I have been banking with 5/3rd for over 10 years. I have become progressively disenchanted with their customer service (or lack thereof) for some time, but stayed with them out of convenience. With their recent move to an annual fee based checking system (with the balance I keep per month, I have to pay at least $12 each month to be able to still write checks on my account...), they officially lost my patronage. My account will be closed Monday morning. Already set up a checking account elsewhere, just have to stop by and make it official. This company has nickel and dimed me for the last time.
My wife and I have a car loan with Fifth Third and are within a year of paying off the car. We actually plan on paying it off early in the next couple months and based on recent interactions with them it can't happen soon enough. Due to lots of extenuating circumstances, we have been forced to choose to pay some bills late as of recent and unfortunately, the car payment was one of the bills to suffer. We will be paying the payment and are not going to let the car fall into repossession, the payment will be a couple of weeks late as we try to get our fiances back in order and on track. They started calling me within a couple days of the payment being late and they were told EXACTLY when the payment would be made and how it would be made (at a branch location) but still tried to pressure me into making a check-over-the-phone commitment. I have received over 10 calls to my phone TODAY, and actually just received ANOTHER WHILE TYPING THIS REVIEW! I have answered 3 of the calls and this last time the "customer service" person actually HUNG UP on me after cutting me off and saying "I apologize for the call" while I was re-explaining how and when we would pay. I will NEVER go through them for anything after this loan is paid off and a credit card we have through them is paid off completely. WORST SERVICE EVER!! I had an easier time dealing with Wells Fargo over the car loan we had through them on a different vehicle. Stay away from Fifth Third.
I am currently a 5/3 account holder. My complaint about Fifth Third Bank is to detailed to post but I will say this. When I read how many customer complaints they own and the One Star (out of five star) rating they have, I can understand why.
As long as no problem exists with your account you will not have a problem 5/3. Just have a problem with your account and you will find out poor the 5/3 really is.
Bank at 5/3 at your own risk. You've been warned.
