not happy with their BS
So Far the bank is not very helpful. I have had three issues so far within two weeks of the change over from INB buy out to the new Interstate Bank over.
The letter they sent said updates from old account to the new would be automatic. That was false. I had to personally go through each of my accounts and update it myself. This proved tenuous. Then two times the debit card would take out money at a gas station and then say insufficeint funds. I called the teller and they told me i had to wait two days before it would show up back in my account. I waited two days and then it was still not there. The next time I called, I was told it would be back in my account by 2:42 pm. I have to check at 2:45 pm to see if that is the case. WTF????? What is the point of talking to a person on the phone if THEY CANNOT do anything while with them on the PHONE!Is this review helpful? -

Bank employees are very poorly trained regarding IRA's
I rolled my 401k into an IRA at my First Interstate Bank in Sunriver Oregon which used to be a Bank of the Cascades. The branch manager worked with another employee trying to get me set up for the roll over. It was very obvious they had no clue how to o this. I made it VERY clear repeatedly that I would want to start making withdrawals in about 4 months and that was the only reason for my roll over. I was told by the branch manager "no problem just come in and complete paperwork" when I was ready. Twice in the next few weeks I received more papers to sign that they said they "missed". Went in 3 weeks ago to start my distributions and was told I couldn't get withdrawals for 4 years per terms of the IRA. Stressed repeatedly that I was told otherwise by branch manager. Was told my only other choice was taking a total distribution and pay taxes on that. Of course that was rediculous and I said I'd just move all my accounts to another bank and roll the IRA to it as well. She had very little knowledge of how an IRA worked and ignored that I was misinformed by the branch manager who appearantly set me up with that wrong kind of IRA. Now I'm still trying to get my IRA rolled over again. Not to mention they have had my 48k for nearly 5 months and I loose out on any interest plus have to pay a $25 charge to roll it over again.

I was going to close my accounts anyways which I even told vice president Mike Peck after he turned me down on the loan, instead they decided to be vindictive and close all three of my accounts today without notice so they can screw all my banking, credit cards automatic withdrawals and deposits. After the facts I found out this is the worst bank in Laramie. Now I realize what a big mistake I made when well know people of Laramie told me not to go bank to First Interstate bank. You live you learn waist of 14 years with an anemie of my business.

Billings, MT 59101Mr. XXXXXX,
Im writing concerning a problem I am having after making a deposit in your bank. Specifically Branch # 4376 and the employee that mishandled this transaction is xxxxx xxxxx.I deposited $9,244.38 on Monday November 20th. I checked my account online after I returned home that day. I discovered that the entire amount had been deposited and shown as a withdrawal along with an additional $8844.38 representing funds placed on hold. Needless to say this overdrew my account by 16,654.92. I called your customer service # 855-342-3400 and they did try to help. They contacted the branch and got the $9244.38 withdrawal removed. I asked about the $821.36 that was deposited in error out of my line of credit. They stated this would correct itself when the system updated overnight.
Tuesday morning November 21st, I checked my account online. Not only didnt the $821.36 get moved back to my line of credit I also had a $60.00 fee for an overdraft. I called your customer service line once again but, they were unable to get in touch with anybody at my branch as it was before 9:00am. I asked to have the Branch manager call me first thing so we could get this matter resolved. I was told an email was sent to the manager of the branch.
I didnt receive a call from the Branch manager so I went up to the bank. The manager was not in so xxxxxxx xxxxx tried to correct the issues. I have to say I spent an hour with Ms. xxxxx and the only thing that got corrected was the $60.00 overdraft fee. She was unable to move the $821.36 back into the line of credit. She eventually said she would do it the Old Fashioned way and filled out a paper form and had me sign it. She stated that the funds would be taken out of my Checking account and placed back into the line of credit.
Wednesday November, 22nd. I checked my account online and I see that the $821.36 has been taken out of my checking account but it hasnt been credited back to the line of credit. Where did my money go? In all my years of doing business I have never dealt with this level of incompetency with any bank. Please tell me why I should continue to utilize your services.
I will include copies of my account that I printed. I am also including a copy of the hold paperwork Mr. xxxxx provided me with. I want to note that even after going to the bank on the 21st and speaking with Ms. xxxxx who conferred with Mr. xxxxx several times there is a $200.00 error on this document. You will see that the amount of the deposit was $9,244.38. The amount of funds that were delayed availability is $9044.38. Wednesday the 22nd $4800.00 will be made available. Thursday the 30th $ 4044.38 of these funds will be made available. These last 2 figures add up to $8844.38. The actual amount of funds delayed should have been this amount $8844.38 and not the $9044.38 as stated in this document.
I cant begin to tell you the frustration I have experienced by just depositing money into your bank. I expect to have another large deposit to make the first of the year and I certainly dont want to have to go through this again. I would request that my branch be moved to the Garden city branch and taken out of the #4376 branch. A simple deposit shouldnt require me to take time out of several days to correct the banks error. I dont have faith in Mr. xxxxx or Ms. xxxxx ability to correctly take care of my banking business.
In closing I would ask that someone from the corporate office contact me to let me know this issue has been rectified.

Fees fees fees
Let me start out by saying the people at my local branch are awesome. Always helpful, always friendly. They're the only reason I stuck around as long as I did. I was switched to them from BOTC when they merged, and the biggest issue is the holds on my checks-every check gets held for a business day. They say that's to protect the customer. But I had a check from a customer that got returned anyways, and they charged me $270 for it, so its not to protect us, its another excuse to charge us fees. We were never informed that they no longer work with our card services until I called to resolve a problem. And the business mobile app is horrible. I had been with my bank for over ten years through many buy-outs and mergers, but this one I can not take and will finish up closing my accounts in the next couple months.

Awful old-school bank
I switched to FIB from Well Fargo about 8 years ago, looking for a more local, western bank. I am now pretty committed and have my business accounts, home mortgage, personal account and family savings.
Banking with First Interstate has been a horrible experience. Their online banking system is archaic and they take every opportunity to gouge their customers. Most banks provide free deposits using their smartphone apps. Not FIB, they charge for this service.
It is impossible to pay FIB mortgage online. Every month I have to make a phone call to a disgruntled worker in Billings who grudgingly takes my payments over the phone. I always get attitude during this experience and the employee always suggests it would be better for me to mail a check. Mail a check? Seriously? This is 2014 and I should be able to transfer funds from my other FIB account whenever I want.
Finally, when we received our mortgage, we had mortgage insurance in place. This was about $200/monthly and is only required until the principal vs lent ratio is over 78%. After over a year of having our ratio less than 78% I had to call FIB and remind them to remove the insurance. They darn well knew they could remove it, just chose to charge me for their profit month after month.
My 2 cents is find another place to bank. First interstate tries to act like they are this great local, western bank and they're really know different than the big banks (just less technologically inclined). They are based in Wyoming for pete's sake.
I think its time for me to go back across the street to Wells Fargo.
