They took so much money!
I was with, apparently am still currently with them because they wont close my account, for a while. I would get charged an overdraft fee of $35 a day often because I was going off their online banking that after a while I realized was constantly jumbling my transactions. I paid hundreds of dollars my first year through northwest in overdraft fees. Then, it was ok for a while. I couldnt log in to my account for a good 5 days. When I was finally able to log in I was shocked to see over $100 in overdraft fees. I paid so I wouldnt be charged again the following day. I called to try and get my money back literally in tears because I could not afford to pay for their systems error, and while I was on the phone with northwest and while my account was in the positive, I got charged ANOTHER OVERDRAFT. The branch manager was only willing to give back one $35 charge out of almost $200 they took from me in a weeks time. They kept blaming it on my phone, even though I told them my computer wouldnt let me log on neither would my Moms or Brothers, they still blamed my devices. I tried to close my account after opening with a different bank, signed the papers, and my northwest account STILL is not closed. I was with northwest for almost 2 years and literally paid close to $800 in overdraft fees only getting $35 returned to me.

TERRIBLE !
This bank is a joke.
Like others here, if I could give them a zero or negative number I would.
I have been a customer since 1990 and was treated like total crap by them when I actually needed something
Branch manager I went to was smug and cocky.
Who needs that type of service when they have my money. Is this review helpful? -

Worst online bill pay I have ever used!
It's almost as if this bank does not want you to pay them, or they want to make it so difficult to pay them online that they will rack up late fees. The online bill pay was ridiculously hard to get set up in the first place. Then they have a two step authentication process. I paid my loan on the due date and had to wait for a text to enter a code to authorize it. Fortunately I saved the text message. Now, 11 days later, the payment is still not processed and I can't even re-authorize it. The online chat took forever despite me being first in the queue. The chat representative could not tell me if they would assess a late fee or not. He was not helpful at all. Every interaction with this bank has been difficult. We are only 90 days in to our loan, but I am already looking into refinancing just so I won't have to deal with this bank again.

Get new workers at Northwest Bank and get rid of the First Niagara old employees.
They should have started with new workers. The First Niagara people are not willing to help you in fear of their jobs. They don't know the policies and are greatly lost. As a business person they are costing me a lot of money . I was told to go to my branch to explain why my business was being affected and they should be able to work it out. The one person that knows me was not willing to do anything at all and in fact she said if I can not build a relationship with a teller as a business person my certified checks will all be held for 8 days. Really. How can I run a business like that. I had two businesses at First Niagara for almost ten years.I have never bounced a check or had any bad business dealings ever with this branch that I am associated with. In my disbeilef of how I was being treated and was told not to raise my voice at them and that maybe I should take my business else where. All because I have no relationship with a teller. Get rid of the old employees of First Niagara.I was told that by a Northwest employee that knows the bank there is something that could be done and that she was not correct once again. So who is not willing to help us!

ATM is always broken
Their ATM is routinely incapable of accepting a check deposit. Sometimes multiple days in a row. This has been going on for months.

I live in a small town in northeast Ohio, northwest purchased Lorain National bank, which operated several branches in Lorain county. Lorain National operated here for decades, was very well respected and trusted. I don't know why they sold to northwest, but I am extremely sorry they did. Northwest has in less than two months has botched up, undone, and upended everything Lorain National had spent countless years perfecting.
As for customer service, northwest refuses to call you back, despite you leaving your name and number on several different occasions.
There was, and continues to be problems with their debit cards, and accessing your online accounts. You can only go back six weeks if you are trying to find a missing check or other records. If ordering checks, if your existing check number is to high, they tell you, we're going to have to give you the next batch of checks starting with a lower number. They continually tell you they are having trouble with their phones, that's why they don't call back. This has got to be intentional. They either want to get rid of their present number of employees, or close some of the branches. No business could be this poorly run accidentally. These people aren't even semi-professional.

Worst Bank Ever!!!
My bank was part of a merger where my account ended up at NorthWest Savings Bank. I didn't think to much about it having been through this before with another bank.
My experience has been nothing but a nightmare. It started early with my account being locked, the ATM card they sent me not being "Active" even after I called and activated it per their instructions. I went to the back yesterday and sat with a bank account manager who got my Northwest account all straight out. It never needed straightening out with any of my other banks in my life. Why now? Northwest SUCKS!! This morning try to sign in to my account to pay a couple of bills on line and my account is now locked again. I call the customer service number to find out why and they are closed. I am looking for a new bank starting today. Maybe I will just which all of my accounts to my Federal Credit Union. Be warned about Northwest they are a horrible company and I would never recommend them to anyone ever. Worst P.O.S bank ever. You have lost me and all my family members account. Is this review helpful? -

Manager knows nothing
I tried to give this bank the benefit of the doubt. I gave them more than one try. They continued to mess things up. I almost lost a condo I was trying to purchase. Thank you to the manager of Ashtabula for saving it! I waited 4 weeks for a title of a vehicle I paid off. That was lost in the mail, but no one knew if it was mailed to my home address or to the title agency. So I went and bought a copy of the title. The title came 4 days later, to my home in a ripped up envelope. The bank tellers where always pleasant and nice. It was the manager who never knew anything. Never could answer a question and took days to find out. Lets just say I have changed banks.

Great bank and customer service!
I've been a customer for 10 years. I've never had a problem or issue with them and if I had to call, their customer service was great. Their fraud team does an excellent job of watching your account too for unauthorized transactions. Online banking is very easy and it only takes a day for a transfer to process. Their ATM's have gotten better as you now have "user preferences" so you can customize your transactions. Very convenient!
My only wish was that their rates were better. Their savings rate is better than most banks in the Lancaster, PA area, but I would love to get a more competitive savings account rate. Overall, I'd recommend them!

Horrible service. No drive up. When you walk n you'll feel like your in a morgue. There is a reason your the only person - this bank is terrible! Lack of proper structure & upper end support / management radiates throughout the organization. Inexperienced bank officers. Horrible with mortgages & knowledge and have zero decision making power. Few hours. And to top it off their 25 year old atm machine is always broken.

guess I went to a different school
if 5 star is an "A", and 4 is a "B".. who is this bank paying to receive a B+ rating? 1 A, 1 B, 1 D and 3 F's doesn't make a B+.....Anyhow, recently purchased Lorain National, which was best bank I have ever known. NorthWest mailed bank cards to wrong addresses many times over. The online program is only one step above an abacus, maybe DOS. no deposits or withdraws are shown same day, and I seem to be missing some good tellers from the bank I've been at for the last 15 yrs...Sorry to see a good bank turn into one that is so far down the toilet, its already floating in Lake Erie...Will miss the Lorain National, and will definitely be changing banks. Grade for bank is a "F" not that that will bring the rating here down. If you know a good bank, please comment.

I am shocked on how terrible Northwest is.
First off, the entire experience from day 1 has been terrible. Not only was I informed only a day before my bank officially closed and turned into this pile of crap I now have no access to any of my accounts or funds. The best part is that the closest branch they are putting up is 3 hours away. I can't wait to close my accounts with these clowns once this weekend is over.
