About the Bank

When you think of a typical retail bank, BNY Mellon doesn't fit the traditional mold. Headquartered in New York City, it's one of the oldest banking and financial institutions in the U.S. and the world, as well as one of the largest.

Investment services, investment management and wealth management are at the core of what BNY Mellon offers. Clients aren't the typical consumer; instead, the bank works with financial advisors, alternative asset managers, registered investment advisors, consultants, insurance companies, investment managers and high net worth and ultra high net worth individuals and families.

In the wealth management arena, BNY Mellon connects with individual investors to offer guidance on things like investing, estate planning, wealth transfers and charitable giving. Private banking services are also available, which includes checking and savings accounts, credit and lending services and cash management solutions for businesses. The Cash Management Access Account, for example, combines the features of a brokerage account with those of a checking account.

This account allows you to manage both everyday financial transactions, such as paying bills or transferring money between accounts, with making investments through a BNY Mellon brokerage account. Any cash you don't plan to invest right away can earn interest in BNY Mellon's Insured Deposit Program or through a money market fund. The goal of this account is to offer streamlined access and financial management capabilities all in one place. To put into perspective the kind of clientele BNY Mellon normally services, this account is geared towards banking customers who have $2 million or more in assets available to invest.

Private banking services are just one part of the picture, in terms of what BNY Mellon offers to wealthy clients. The bank takes a comprehensive view to tackle issues like tax planning and risk management, recordkeeping and security and aligning your philanthropic vision with your wealth donation efforts. BNY Mellon also helps with providing jumbo mortgages for high net worth clients who want to build or buy a new home or vacation home and want to use financing, versus tapping their cash reserves.

If your focus is on preserving or passing on your wealth, BNY Mellon has you covered with trust planning and foundation services. Their wealth management experts can walk you through everything from setting up a private foundation or endowment, to creating a plan for the final administration of your estate once you pass away. The bank also specializes in intergenerational planning and similar challenges that wealthier individuals face.

The main benefits BNY Mellon offers are a client-first focus and extensive expertise. The bank is committed to helping you choose the products or services that are best tailored to your situation, and BNY Mellon's bankers are well-versed in what they do. And, BNY Mellon's Private Banking division boasts award-winning customer service. Of course, there is one caveat to consider: having access to top-shelf service and products comes with a higher cost than the kind of fees you'd expect at a typical bank.

The worst customer service on this planet

Contacted BNY Mellon customer service once or twice a month since April to take care of an electronic transfer to a new bank account. Talked to 7 different reps. Filled out 8 forms and sent the forms back to BNY Mellon. The last rep. I spoke to was very rude. Since April one account kept getting sent to the old bank account. I have 2 accounts that needed to be taken care of. It took this bank from April/2017 till September/2017 to take care of this problem. I was informed the electronic transfer will be done in September. How incompetent and sad is that?

Problems depositing checks BNY Mellon at Chase Bank

For the past 5 months I have had a monthly check from BNY Mellon held at my Chase Bank for up to 9 days after deposit. BNY in September issued a check with a incorrect routing no. and had to reissue the check but Chase is still holding funds to clear and the waiting is continuing.

BNY said it Chase's fault for delay and Chase still doesn't clear the funds when deposit received.

Does anyone else have this problem?
