Predatory Lending Practices
My wife and I attempted to refinance our existing loan with Union Savings Bank based on a letter sent by the VP of the branch. I called to confirm the interest rate and closing costs which were acceptable to me. There was a prepaid closing cost fee due that I help off until badgered to pay as the loan was ready and waiting to be closed. Within a week of paying this fee the loan terms changed that now included a $7000 closing cost fee. I decided not to move forward with the bait and switch loan to which Union Savings pointed out their policy to not refund prepaid closing costs.
This was a horrible experience and I warn anyone ever to give Union Savings any money until closing.

Stay Away - Run While You Can
My husband & i went to refinance with our current bank - union savings located in Columbus, ohio (office is located off of 161). We received a quote and began the process with our contact. We should have known there was an issue when we were constantly following up and not receiving any updates or responses. We finally reached the appraisal and figured that our concerns were not warranted & our process would be finalized. Not true!!!! After the appraisal, we didn't hear anything! We called and e-mailed our contact to no avail. A friend of ours went through the same re-finance and was done in ~1 month. After 3 months of spotty communication, if any, i reached out to his boss and spoke with (avp, operation manager). I remain sorely disappointed. This person took 2 weeks to actually get in contact with us and didn't know the details about our refinance despite voice-mail and e-mail messages that i had provided him. Obviously, the behavior comes straight from the top - customer service is not a priority, especially if you are an existing customer. Long story short, the bank will not make the situation right. We are now looking for other locations to refinance, but will have a higher rate. Customer beware - run far away!
