Interest and Rewards

The Everything Account earns interest on savings balances. The APY is well above what you'll get at most traditional banks, but below what many online banks offer.

This account doesn't earn rewards either. You won't get cash back or points on debit card purchases.

Whether those things are important to you depends on your goals. If you're hoping to get the highest savings rate or earn back a percentage of what you spend, then you may need to consider a different bank.

On the other hand, if you're looking for convenience with minimal fees then NBKC delivers.

Fees

Banks make money from the fees they charge but they can be a nuisance for customers. It's a good idea to review the fee schedule for any checking account you plan to open so you'll know what you might pay.

Here's how the fees for the Everything Account compare.

Other Service Fees - nbkc bank Everything Account

Type Fee
Monthly Maintenance Fee $0
Minimum Balance Fee $0
Overdraft Fee $0
Inactivity Fee $0
Stop Payment Fee $0
Returned Item Fee $0
Insufficient Funds Fee $0
Dormant Account Fee $0
Foreign Transaction Fee 1%

International Wire Transfers $45 to send; $45 to receive

NBKC does not charge a fee for ATM withdrawals at its own ATMs. You won't pay a fee when you use ATMs in the MoneyPass network either.

If you're charged a foreign ATM surcharge, NBKC will reimburse you. You can get up to $12 in foreign ATM fee refunds per month.

Branch and ATM Access

NBKC has branches in Kansas City, but you don't need to live near one to open an account.

If you need to visit an ATM, you can use more than 37,000 MoneyPass ATMs fee-free.

As mentioned, NBKC does reimburse some foreign ATM fees though not all. You'll get up to $12 in ATM fee rebates per month.

If you regularly hit the ATM, you may want to look for a bank that offers unlimited fee refunds. There are a handful of banks that reimburse all ATM surcharges, giving you more options to choose from when you need to withdraw cash.

Account Access

NBKC offers online and mobile banking access, as well as ATM access.

Some of the things you can do with online and mobile banking include:

  • Reviewing transaction history
  • Checking statements
  • Setting up savings goals
  • Paying bills
  • Transferring funds between accounts

NBKC doesn't offer Zelle but you can still link your debit card to the Zelle app to send funds to friends and family.

You can withdraw up to $1,010 in cash from your account daily. You can spend up to $2,500 per day with your debit card.

If you need to transfer money to external bank accounts the daily and monthly limits are $500 and $2,000 for the first 90 days. After that, limits can increase to $1,000 daily and $10,000 monthly.

NBKC may limit mobile check deposits, including how much you can deposit and the types of checks accepted. However, those details are not spelled out in the customer account agreement.

If you plan to use mobile deposit you may want to contact NBKC customer service to ask about possible restrictions.

FDIC Insurance

You might not think about FDIC insurance when opening a bank account, but it's important to have.

Why? Because FDIC insurance protects your deposits if your bank fails.

The current coverage limit is $250,000 per depositor, per account ownership type, per bank. NBKC is a member-FDIC financial institution so your deposits are safe, up to the limit.

What You Need to Open

You can open an NBKC Bank Everything Account online and it takes just a few minutes.

Here's what you'll need:

  • Valid, government-issued ID
  • Address, email and phone number
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth

You'll also need bank account details to link an external account for your first deposit. That includes your bank account number and bank routing number.

Again, there's no minimum deposit to open an account. So you can deposit $1, $1,000 or $10,000--whatever fits your budget.
