About the Bank

Capital One 360 represents the online banking division of Capital One Bank, one of the 10 largest banks in the country. The bank serves customers online, as well as through Capital One Cafe locations in selected states.

Unlike some online banks which offer just one or two products, Capital One 360 features a full range of banking services. Some of the bank’s most recognizable products include:

  • 360 Checking accounts

  • 360 Savings accounts

  • 360 Money Market accounts

  • MONEY, a teen-only checking account

  • Kids’ savings accounts

  • 360 Certificate of Deposit accounts

The 360 Savings account is one of the better online savings accounts available. This fee-free account features a competitive annual percentage yield for savers, with no minimum amount required to open an account. This account is suited for saving a little or a lot, and all balances earn the same APY. If you’re more of a super saver, the 360 Money Market account takes the APY up a notch, while still maintaining a no-monthly fee status.

Capital One 360’s CD accounts also offer some impressive rates. The highest rate is reserved for five-year CDs but even the one-year CD features an APY that’s hard for other online banks to beat. If you need something for the shorter term, you can opt for a six- or nine-month CD instead. These CDs are low-risk, with guaranteed rates of return and there’s no minimum deposit required to open one.

Both savings and checking account customers enjoy access to Capital One 360’s top-rated mobile app. The app is designed for making easy transfers between Capital One 360 accounts, or between external accounts at a different bank. You can deposit checks anywhere, at any time, with mobile check deposit and its generous daily and monthly limits.

The app makes managing your money on the go easier, and it includes features like digital person-to-person payments powered by Zelle and the ability to link your Capital One 360 debit card to Apple Pay, Android Pay and Samsung Pay. You can set up savings goals through the app to track your savings progress or schedule automatic savings transfers to grow your money consistently.

If you need to stop by an ATM, you have access to a network that includes more than 39,000 fee-free Capital One and Allpoint ATM locations nationwide. You can deposit cash or checks, withdraw money, make transfers or check your balance with no ATM fees. Just take note that unlike some online banks, Capital One 360 doesn’t reimburse you for any foreign ATM fees or surcharges if you use another bank’s machine.

Finally, Capital One 360 takes financial education seriously and offers online banking customers additional tools to improve their money know-how, like the Capital One Wallet app, which tracks your purchases. You can also take advantage of CreditWise from Capital One, which gives you free monthly access to your credit score.

    Spark Business Savings (Capital One)

Wish I had seen this blog before opening a Spark Business Savings account. We opened an account, which required about 2-3 weeks. I received no email notification that the account was approved. I phoned customer service and was told yes, the account had been prior approved and opened. Okay, great customer communications. I should have deemed this an omen. On Friday 02/23/2018, we initiated a transfer ($5K) from a Wells Fargo account to fund this great new Spark account. On Monday 02/26, WF debited our account and the Spark account showed the funds transfer in process. Their website info states 2 days (3 max) to complete a transfer. On 03/02 (5 days later after the WF debit), the Spark account was showing the funds were still "On Hold." I sent CapOne a secure message to request when will the transfer be completed. No response. On 03/03, I again sent a secure message. And again no response. What's also strange is that the $5K funds On Hold earned $0.45 interest on 02/27. And here it is 03/05 (8 days later), and funds are still On Hold! We cannot even transfer out funds if we wanted to. NOT ACCEPTABLE! LESS THAN 1 STAR.

Capital One 360 Decides to End Banking Relationship

Capital One 360 is the worst online bank that I have ever used. I had an account for a few months everything was fine. I went to the store and my card was declined. I called Capital One 360 and was transferred to Customer Security. They told me that Capital One 360 has decided to end the banking relationship and that no new accounts could be opened in my name. There was no option to appeal whatsoever I am basically banned for life from banking with Capital One 360. They said that they were not obligated to give me a reason why they closed my account and they will send me a check for the remaining balance within 10 business days. I got a disconnection notice from my utility company because I could not pay my bills on time. I got my check in the mail and tried to deposit it in my Wells Fargo account then 2 days later Wells Fargo called me up and said that the check bounced and Wells Fargo has decided to close my account. Wells Fargo said that they would report me to ChexSystems for suspected fraud and they can't give me any of my money. Now I am without a bank account and I have no way to pay my bills or receive my paycheck. I don't know how long the lights will stay on in my home. I asked Capital One to send me a new check and they said that they can't do that because the check that they gave me should not of bounced. Because I am in ChexSystems for suspected fraud no bank will give me an account not even a second chance account. The Suspected Fraud notation will stay on my ChexSystems Report for 10 years and banks will be very strict. Thank You Capital One 360 for ruining my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Really horrible experience

I really dislike leaving reviews like this but its deserved. My positive experience as a credit card holder led me to opening C1 checking and savings accounts.

My interactions with the Customer Support team has been excellent. Every member spoken with was polite and really tried to help. Unfortunately, they were roadblocked by a completely unresponsive and inept IT group. Escalations to the Digital Response Team, ironically, resulted in NO response.

The simple act of opening a checking and savings account should not be this complicated.

If you are affluent and travel globally, this is not the bank for you. (CapOne good, CapOne 360 horrible)

Apparently CapOne 360 is geared for people with extremely basic finances who do not travel or leave the US. You cannot do anything online when you are out of the country, as their text-a-code verification process is set up so that it cannot text a US mobile roaming out of the US. And while regular CapOne (which is awesome) can send the code via e-mail, CapOne 360 refuses to do this. I was told that my only option was to FAX a PAPER COPY of a CHECK to set up an ACH connection since they couldn't text me the verification code. It is 2017, almost 2018. And yes, they used the words FAX, PAPER COPY and CHECK all in the same set of instructions. There are not words for this. They also gave me tremendous headache when I was trying to add my husband (yes, legally, married husband of 18 years), on to the money market I opened for us. How is that a security risk? I can understand if it was a joint account and I was trying to drop him and steal all the money before I ran off with the gardener, but I had simply set up the account online and wanted to ADD him - they made it almost impossible *and he is our primary income). These people are nuts, out of touch, and have the worst customer service that I have ever experienced. Not worth the 1.2% money market.

Bad customer service, headaches with accounts, and cheapness galore.

Mickey Mouse operation at its best. Capital One 360 is horrible. They give terrible customer service and blame a customer for their ineptness in regards to their "online deposit" which can't read a picture of a check. Then blame the customer for sending it to Capital One using tracking service when Capital One doesn't even provide pre paid envelopes, unlike other banks, in order to make deposits into their bank for their own profit. Some person named "Alyse Yetto, on behalf of Capital One" handles the complaints on behalf of a lackadaisical "Office of the President".

Capital One 360 only has the advantage of offering a checking account that gives some interest with no minimum balance. Their representatives give wrong information in regards to their own banking procedures. Their savings accounts do not offer good rates of interest compared to other banks.

They DO NOT HELP their own customers and if you're looking for banking problems Capital One 360 is the way to go.

In the end in the United States all the banks are in cahoots with their head office; The Federal Reserve Board/ Corporation. All the banks in the US are a joke but Capital One 360 takes the cake.

10+ year customer moving money to another bank

I started with them when they were ING Direct and stuck with them for years. Short term CD's always had lower rates, but the basic saving accounts were always near the top of the pack. No more. Other reputable online banks have CD's, Money Market accounts and basic savings with higher rates and just as easy setup. I am in the process of moving most of my savings out. The few times I needed support I was helped quickly, but going where the rates are. They are still above the average, but basic savings 20-40% lower than the best rates.

Their system did NOT work when I tried to send a cashiers check and they completely refused to wire the money, even though, they were able to make this happen in certain situations - like YOUR SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK!

Totally got the runaround and after an hour of frustration, I am dumping them.

Was A Great Bank Right Up Until.

Capital one 360 closed my account. No warning, no phone call or email. I found out about it because i suddenly could no longer log in any my transactions started to bounce. When i called to find out what was happening, the typically cheery rep suddenly became stern and cold with me. "you'll get a letter in the mail explaining why. "

you might assume i was a bad customer. I certainly can't imagine how that would be possible. $20k a month in and out of my account, three year relationship. I'll admit that i wrote about five checks over the life of the relationship that bounced - the most recent being 6 months ago - because my direct depositor had an unfortunate habit of sending funds a day late and i would occasionally write a check the day before the deposit assuming it would be ok.

I take ownership of this mistake, and i paid my penance for this transgression through bank fees on my "no fees" account. If i am the definition of a customer who deserves a sudden banking crisis followed by a curt letter that says "going forward, no additional activity can take place and no new accounts can be opened. Thanks, capital one 360" then this is the bank for you. My letter in return:

    Dear capital one 360,

when i let you hold on to my money while i wasn't using it, i thought you'd appreciate the interest you could earn by turning around and loaning it to your mortgage customers. Now that you've had a sudden change of heart and told me to get lost, i want to return the favor. I've let many people know about your customer relationship approach and the value each individual account holder has to you.

As for the people whom i've previously recommended capital one 360, i have contacted each one to rescind and apologize for my recommendation. Going forward, no marketing material or other contact of any kind will accepted. In addition, i will make an effort to let as many people know my experience as i am able. Thanks,
    -your former

My boss and I were making payroll deposits as cheaply as possible, trying to find a way to avoid ADP fees, etc. After just the SECOND deposit (2 weeks apart), they froze my account (claiming suspected fraud!) This caused many of my other accounts to charge me late fees due to reversal of payments, AND my electric was almost turned off! The "capper" is that I've been an outstanding client of CAPITAL ONE on the CREDIT CARD side, for over 2 years! That didn't matter to them. It's been over a week now, and they've yet to return my "frozen" funds to me!

    Avoid like the plague

Since this is not a "brick and mortar" bank, your only way to contact them is either through the web or by phone. You'll basically get a "Mastercard" debit card for access to your funds.

And when a merchant submits a fraudulent charge on your card, which overdraws your checking account (because why would you keep extra money in checking when it earns at least a slightly higher rate of interest in savings), and then the merchant essentially acknowledges that it was a fraudulent charge by returning the money, this bank will not reverse the overdraft charges. "Because you have a previous 'relationship' with the merchant."

Their "debit card" safety guarantee is a joke.

And even if you didn't have a previous "relationship" with a merchant, and report the withdrawal as fraudulent, it takes upwards of 60 days (often much more) for them to "process" things and get your money back to you.

You'd be better off just stuffing your extra money under your mattress.

And there are very few ATMs that will allow you to withdraw without additional fees. The only one in the entire town I live in is at Target. Which, by the way, is not open 24 hours.

I set everything up in my 360 account--all the auto payments, my retirement check to auto deposit, etc. For the last THREE WEEKS I have been unable to deposit a check.Doesn't matter what browser I use; doesn't matter what internet service I use (I've gone to numerous locations in a desperate attempt to deposit a rather large check which I need deposited in order to cover expenses. I ended up having to go the person who wrote the check, and ask them to go to their bank and wire the money into my account (just a LITTLE embarrassing). I have called numerous times, had to wait up to 40 minutes, and then of course, nothing has gotten resolved.

Between trying to deposit the check and calling them, dealing with my 360 account has cost me so much time, I cannot believe it. DO NOT BANK WITH THEM!!! I am changing banks instantly (costing me MORE time to contact everyone with new banking information for auto deposits and payments.). I am so angry and frustrated!!!!!!!!
