BBVA Compass Internet Customer / Fee issues
I signed up with Compass through Internet Banking. Don't bank here. If you do and have some financial difficulties, they will stab you with NSF or Overdrafts at every opportunity. Also, the clearinghouse for transactions takes 2 days MINIMUM for your transactions to clear. They also will hold your check for a week if you don't have the funds and are making a deposit.
The only thing Customer Support is good for is telling you that it is NOT BBVA Compass' fault, it will be your fault the customer or the merchant where the transaction originated. That is every single time. Never the bank. IT is absolutely ridiculous. The latest was BBVA Compass allowing a merchant to try and post a payment to my account 3 days after I paid it and then repeat that everyone other day this past week, so I had $38.00 x 3 charges for Compass. They do not care. If you are trying to start out in life or start a family or anything.. stay clear of this bank.
P.S. If you are an internet customer (originated by signing up online) you will not get any help from any branch. They will refer you to the internet hotline. I'm in Alabama.

Charge $3000 to close my CD
Beware:
1. This bank requires you to go to a branch in person to close a CD
2. CD auto renew without promotion rate. I was getting 0.1% interest after the first year.
3. Charges 2% of your balance if you close your CD before it matures
horrible horrible bank they are out to screw you purposely
When I want to withdraw the money from my CD I was told I cant do it online even though I opened the CD online. They told me I hade to go to a local branch. I am in Southern California. They only have one branch here and its 30 minutes away from my house.
When I got to the branch, they told me there will be a fee since my CD is not mature yet. I knew the CD is not mature yet but I assume the worst case is I paid they back the interest rate I earned during this year.
But No! They told me to close my CD they will charge me $3000 on a $100,000 CD!!!! Because they charge 2% of your total balance.
I was also told that I have been getting 0.1% interest rate for the past two years because the CD auto renew to their base rate. WTF
stay away from this bank. Go to Synchrony Bank instead. I earned $2000 more in interest, I can close it over the phone, and they only charged me $60 compared to $3000 fee.

Worst customer service ever!
I went to the BBVA Branch on Fairhope Avenue last week to cash a check that was written to me by a bank customer in good standing. The teller not only refused to cash the check but informed me that if I had an account with BBVA that she would gladly cash the check. I was told that I would have to pay a 10.00 fee if I wanted the check cashed. The thing is, Ive cashed a similar check before and never been charged a fee.
Before I retired I was an art gallery Manager. Ive attended many seminars on customer service........this bank would get an F in the area of excellent customer. A satisfied customer will tell 3 people. An unsatisfied customer will tell 18 people. There you go. Multiply that figure out.
I would NEVER do business with this bank.Is this review helpful?

Great Offerings, Easy Setup, NO Hard Pull on your Credit!
OUTSTANDING Bank for Checking. I've got an Interest-bearing Checking account and everything is clockwork. Setup was a breeze, once logged into your account, linking External accounts for fast transfers (in and out) is also very easy (and fast).
Debit card arrived quickly, as a bonus, you can have a personalized Debit card, with your photo (also arrives quickly). There are some nice financial tools on the site, you can track spending in your accounts, mortgages and cards from other banks as well. The mobile app is solid, allowing almost all functions that are available on the website. Interface is clean and simple.
I've seen the negative reviews on BBVA Compass but don't understand them. I'd recommend them strongly for Checking and Savings. As a NICE BONUS, they do not do a Hard pull on your credit, when you apply for an account. I don't think they even run Chexsystems. So if you want a good checking account and have 25 bucks to pitch in, you're in.
Note of Interest: Compass also owns Simple Bank, one of the most remarkable, forward-thinking and FUN banks of all (seriously). No fees, no tricks, no branches, purely mobile, straight-forward and FUN. I've got checking accounts, savings and debit cards with both.

Wait till you try to get your money when your CD matures. O, they'll let you apply for & fund a CD on line, but just wait till it matures & you try to get your money out. Their rates suck so bad right now that nobody in their right mind would open a CD with them at this time, but I opened a 5 year CD with them (5 years ago) and it just matured on 12/31/17, and you would think I was the worst customer ever because I now want to transfer my money into a bank that is paying 5 times the interest they are. I was on the phone with them several times before it matured explaining to them that I was going to be withdrawing the money as soon as it matured. Well, when it matured, and then they renewed the CD against my will at .50%. They won't let me electronically transfer the money out of their bank and they wont transfer the money for me, and the nearest branch to me is an 80 mile round trip. Their call back service hung up on me twice and when I did finally get thru to someone, they transferred me all around and then hung up on me again and I still never got my money transferred, so I sent them a message thru their secure message center requesting the money to be transferred so I have something in writing within the 10 day grace period proving that I contacted them and requested the money be transferred so that I don't get hit with a $25 fee for closing a CD early that I never requested to be renewed in the first place. At this time, you can get a 5 year CD rate of 2.50% (see ratebrain.com). A Discover Bank Savings Account is currently paying 1.3% and your money stays liquid, and Compass wants to pay .50% for a 5 year CD. There's a no brainer. My secure message was suppose to be answered within 48 hours and I am now at 72 hours with no response. They can expect a lawsuit real soon.

Awesome Bank and Customer Service!
I must really applaud BBVA Compass Bank. I was able to officially open a Checking and Savings account online. Whereas I'd opened those same type of accounts at another bank, received my approval along with my account and routing numbers, only to find that after I changed my payroll information on my job that the accounts had been closed without any type of contact from the bank. But with BBVA Compass Bank my accounts were approved, opened and ready for deposit. And of course after the experience that I had prior to BBVA I called them to make certain that the accounts were actually approved and opened and I received the most pleasant and efficient customer service. The customer representative explained in great detail about my accounts, bank services that are available to me as well as other services that I was eligible to take advantage of. I must say that I am deeply satisfied thus far of the services that I have received and look forward to a great banking relationship with BBVA Compass Bank.

An inept OF A BANK THAT SHOULD BE CLOSED

Mr. Onur Gen
BBVA Compass CEO, and;
Rafael Bustillo
Chief Operating Officer
15 South 20th Street,
Birmingham, Alabama 35233Dear Sirs:
In my 55 years of banking with various banking Institutions I have never had a worse miserable year of bad customer service experience at your Bank located at 4652 NASA Parkway Seabrook, Texas 77586 Not only am I very disappointed by my experiences there. But yesterday 3/17/2017 was one of my worst experiences.
I had a jumbo CD that was due to mature on 3/16/2017 so for the past two weeks I went in to locate and talk to the Branch Manager because the excellent customer service representative that worked there who opened my accounts and quit and had never replaced him. Leaving only a totally inept grumpy arrogant Investment advisor by the name of Joel Beeson.
When I arrived at the Branch at 2:52 P.M. on a Friday afternoon I asked for the Branch Manager to see what I can do with my maturing CD and My Money Market which had been paying 1.35% interest the teller informed me as usual the Manager is out to Lunch surprised NOT, So I waited to see this out to lunch Manager who lets this branch to be unorganized and disconnected from the Customers.
At 3:33 PM and the manager is still out to lunch. So, Inept and rude Joel Beeson approached me and asked if he could be of help. I showed him my notice of maturity and asked him to place the CD funds that had an Interest rate of 1.39% in my MM account that was advertised at 1.0% and he explained that my MM was also dropping from 1.28% to .04%. I showed him the advertisement I had received and that the MM rate was advertised at 1.0 % and he rudely and dismissively stated that that was for new money only which there was no notice of such and proceeded to give me his card and proudly stated that not only was he an Investment Representative for BBVA Compass but also a Senior Financial Sales Advisor for BBVA COMPASS.
I then asked if he would call his corporate office and verify that and in an extortion style tone stated I am not going to be fired because of you. So, at 4:12 P.M. and still no Manager on a busy Friday afternoon, and I told Mr. Beeson to close my CD Account MM Account and Checking Account and went down the street to another bank and received a rate of 1.105%
In summary, The Seabrook, Texas BBVA Brach and its Manager and Bank Officer / Investment Representative / Senior Financial Sales Advisor are the most incompetent, inept bank personnel, I ever hope to deal with and did not change banks earlier because of the penalty clause and "dont let their bait and switch "high yield" money market and CD account lurk you into opening an account with BBVA Compass Bank because the "good rate" would only last a couple of months and will drop way low and I have had nothing but negative experiences with this Branch after my original officer left and was forced to stay because of my time deposits.Richard White

Mortgage Payment Issue
Have a mortgage with BBVA for THREE years. Simply it is 2016 ad you CANNOT make a mortgage payment through their website unless you have a bank account with them! REALLY, you gave me a mortgage, but I cannot make a payment. Oh, but if I pay the $9.00 service charge, they will draft it out of my bank account with Chase. They do not cooperate with Chase bank for an online payment through by Bill Pay, so it takes my bank (Chase) 5 business days, not including weekends to manually send BBVA my mortgage payment. This is ridiculous, but what is worse is the condescending attitude that BBVA's clients get for questioning this antiquated and unfair servicing of their Mortgage and being up to date in the industry. BBVA, PLEASE REMEMBER that their are always OTHER options with mortgage servicing companies. Especially when you have A1 credit, such as I. Shame on you!!!!

Beware of BBVA Compass Introductory Rates
I opened an account there; moved my money from a local credit union that had gone down to 0.2% on savings. BBVA Compass offered a rate for 1.2% on their Clear Choice Money Market account if you opened it online. It was supposed to last a year- the rate was down to 0.4% within a few months. So I'm taking money out and putting it in PGX, a corporate bond ETF that pays about 5.7% with a .5% expense ratio and a four star Morningstar rating. Don't these stupid banks realize what competition there is? There are many online accounts paying from .85% to 1.05% on a steady basis, because even with low rates they can make four times that with a fixed rate mortgage loan. BBVA is just being greedy or going out of business.

Cancelled/closing Accounts For No Reason?
I was a customer for years and my wife just started a new account a few months ago. My wife's account balance suddenly became empty. I called customer service and they said the bank just needed some information and they were holding the money. We visited a branch and they said the bank account was closed but they dont know why. The number they had to call to find out wasnt open on saturday and she'd get a check in the mail. A day earlier my debit card stopped working with them. When i asked why they couldnt figure it out. I would have to wait until monday, take time off work and visit them again to find out why it was cancelled. I just took all my money out of the bank and closed my account. This is ridiculous. Customer service tells me to visit a branch, then when i visit a branch theyre on the phone with customer service. Then they cant resolve anything cause its saturday. Im not going to miss work to figure out why theyre randomly closing accounts/cancelling cards out of the blue. Fortunately i have credit cards i can use, but i gotta think for some people who dont, what are they supposed to do in this situation. Just live without money until they get a check? Survive on nothing but cash for days? Kind of defeats the purpose of having a bank if it doesnt work at all.

If I call this bank three times and get three different people, I get three different answers! If you call customer service, you're ALWAYS on hold for a minimum of 30 minutes waiting for a customer service rep to speak to you and if you're lucky you MIGHT get one that sounds older than 12! I HATE this bank! I've had issues with my business account since the day I opened it! I've been back and forth with a branch manager who completely dropped the ball! I've emailed her, left voice mail messages for her and NOTHING! I HATE this bank! The only reason I don't want to close the account is because we've banked there for over 15 years. If you can avoid opening an account here I say do that because if you EVER need any type of customer service and you're expectations aren't even set that high, trust me, BBVA will go lower than low! I HATE this bank! After typing this, I've decided it is time to move on. I will close my account as soon as possible! I HATE this bank!
