Money Grubbers
After being a customer in good standing for 7 years I was $5 overdrawn in January. They agreed to waive the exorbitant fee. Two days ago I spent the day in the Emergency Room, and unfortunately that was the day I had planned to make a deposit to cover an auto pay bill. The very next day (yesterday), as soon as they opened I showed up at this thug bank to cover the bill. I showed them the paperwork from the Emergency Room and asked them to waive the $200 fee. Not only did they refuse, the horrid manager chose that moment to make shaming statements and wouldn't even look me in the eye. Needless to say, Great Western will no longer get my business and this story of their inhumane, money grubbing practices will be spread far and wide.

Shady Bank
Ever since they switched to that ebanking app, it has been nothing but trouble logging in and transferring.
Also, they can never figure out how to transfer from one account to another so all these mysterious debits and credits show up.

Horrible customer service, made customers go without debit cards
This bank made all of it's customers cards invalid one weekend (12/16/16). They sent cards with chips in them, but if you don't usually do anything with paper statements, it was really easy to miss. The week before Christmas I didn't have a debit card and neither did several of my friends.
I asked the teller if my card with the chip could be rushed. The other teller said they could call the help desk and extend my card until 1/10/17. My teller didn't want to wait on hold with the help desk (she held for about 10 seconds) so she said there was nothing she could do.
There was no personal banker available so I spoke to the branch manager. She was completely condescending and said "Do us a favor and yourself a favor and open your mail." After I insisted, she called the help desk, got right through, and extended my debit card (so I could pay my bills and do Christmas shopping).
Her attitude was pathetic.
If you have a choice, go somewhere else.

A Long Time Customer, Opting Out of Great Western
I've been with Great Western for over 10 years, I currently have four accounts. I have overlooked the occasional issue over the years: a hold on my retirement check for inexplicable reasons, incorrect change, a teller saying "what deposit?" I have stuck it out with them because they are my neighborhood bank, they know me, and have friendly, if not always competent, service. When I was invited to join a class action lawsuit for manipulated overdraft charges, I opted out. I did not feel it was ethical to try to collect money from them when they had not wronged me. Yesterday, I was a victim of such charges, and they don't care. Tomorrow, I opt out of Great Western.

Double Charges for Checks
This is the third time I have called about being charged twice for checks. Also the checks did not come with the changes that I ordered. I was on hold for 15 minutes and told that customer service could not help m and I needed to talk to my personal banker. I left a message and no call back. I then called again and I was told my personal banker has been up for another job and this might be the problem. I then called again and was left hanging for another 15 minutes. With no resolution, as far as I'm concerned this is a grave misuse of my funds. What ever happened to customer service?

Terrible Banking Experience
I opened a checking account in Nov. 13', and since that time I have had several garnishments hit my account. Which was fine until I found out that the majority of these 'garnishments' were actually legal fees form my bank. That all that money I had been paying out was actually going to the bank and a very tiny portion was actually paying my garnishments. Then they processed a garnishment with no funds in my account and charged me $79 with overdraft fees for over a week.
They will not redo this and they claimed they had permission from the court system. So I contacted them and they told me they did not say that they could remove funds that were not there. Getting an answer was like pulling teeth. They straight up lied to me about verifying paper work, and when I asked to see the paper work they claimed they verified they could not produce it. Very horrible bank. Wouldn't recommend anyone to use it.

DO NOT USE THIS BANK!!!
This bank has the worst customer service on the planet. First, they have deposited money of ours in other peoples' accounts as well like some other posters of this same issue.
The worst, though, is when we discovered that someone had hacked an account of some kind with both my wife and my debit cards and drained our account. We only noticed this because we checked our account before going to shop for our Thanksgiving day groceries. Needless to say, we didn't get to go shopping; this was on a Sunday.
On Monday we called and was told I would have to fill out a dispute form and wait five days for provisional money to be put back in. In the meantime, I would have to go to my local bank to SEE if they would forego the overdraft charges that would occur as we had NO money. They were SO gracious to do this for us and I had to call everyday to have them reverse the charges even though the manager there had supposedly put in the request to not charge us during this time.
When we finally got our money back in on Saturday, it was short $200 but one of the charges was done on my wife's card and we would have to start the process all over again, another 5 days even though the initial investigation put money back in our account from the other charges on my card. So we have to wait a full 10 days to get the full amount of money back in our account because the idiot who helped us initially did not see two cards were used.
We had to go to this bank because our last credit union had no local offices near us and had we been with them, they would have not let any of the charges even go through because they were done in California to buy massive amounts of gift cards and we have never been to California as long as we have had our bank account. DO NOT BANK HERE UNLESS YOU WANT CONSTANT HEADACHES, CRAPPY SERVICE, AND LOVE BEING A NUMBER.Is this review helpful? -

Credit Card Customer Service Is The Worst I've Ever Experienced.
I recently opened a checking account with great western and was happy with the friendly staff at the local branch. At the time, i also accepted their offer to open a visa card account. 0% for 6 months. Great. Bad move. Their payment structure is managed by at least two other mystery entities, of which dealing with is horrible. I tried to post my first payment to the card last month through one (i say one, because it turns out there are more than one site to pay at, but they are all antiquated and hard to navigate) of their payment sites, www. Ezcardinfo. Com
turns out, the payment didn't process, even though the site said it was accepted. Instead of calling or emailing me as it happened to inform me of their error, the account sat for three weeks in an outstanding, unpaid status. I'm happy and ignorant all the while. By week four, i started getting mystery calls from an 866 number every morning at 8:15. When i answer, there is no reply, it just hangs up. When i don't answer and it goes to voicemail, the same thing happens. One morning, i decided to call back the number to see who has been such a nuisance. It's some "courtesy" division or company or agency saying my account is outstanding. The extremely rude and uncourteous associate who answered wouldn't even tell me the reason for the call until i gave him all kinds of confidential information.
Remember, i had no idea who this company is! After 2 hours of precious work time, multiple phone calls to multiple divisions, agencies and who knows what, plus fretting over my credit taking a hit because of their cludgy system. I still had no answer why the payment didn't post. I also couldn't pay them at that time over the phone without being charged a $10 "convenience" fee. I gave in and just mailed them the stinking payment. That was one week ago. I'm still getting the calls. I called the 866 number back today to speak with a manager, who, as it turns out, was not there. First-rate bs.

Terrible Bank
This bank declines my card every time I buy something online, and shuts it off without any notice. When you order something online that is originating from your city on a credible site why would it be declined? You can see the ip address which is originating from your town, at least ask the customer before you shut the card down. I asked if they could stop doing that and they simply said we call you if it is a weird transaction... and not once have I been notified.
